The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

Man Utd have a £100m budget for the summer to keep them within FFP and won't change even if the Qatari's come in.

Rest of their budget will be raised from selling players. After our interest in AWB in January I wonder if there will be some deal attempted for small amount of money plus AWB for Neves.

AWB is on the list of players they will sell, along with Maguire, Telles, Bailly & van der Beek

I've quite liked the look of AWB last few times Ive seen him play, but does he fit in with JLs idea of what a full back should be? I thought he liked FBs can that are good going forward? Probably AWBs weakest point?

That kind of deal hurts them on FFP. He still has around £18m of amortisation to go and for FFP purposes they are selling him for £0. So congratulations, you have put an £18m hole in your 'on paper' budget overnight.

No he doesn't, he's a better defender than Semedo and an upgrade going forwards, but as you point out doesn't fit the profile of what Lopetegui should be looking for

Please let’s not kid ourselves.

AWB, Maguire, Telles, Bailly and Van Der Beek are massive improvements on anything we have here.

By sone distance.

I’d take any of them in a heartbeat.

Guess it would be like how we did Jota and Hoever. Technically a swap but a fee was put on both players

So, say we want £50m for Neves. They "pay" that and then we instantly sign AWB for £20m. In reality its a fee plus the player but on the books, 2 different deals

I post this in a similar way to Tim Spiers, in a I know fuck all about FFP way and if the above manner helps or makes things worse but it looks good written down and that is enough for me

You can do it that way, got to be very careful with the values though as that is exactly how Juventus got done...

£50m for Neves is fair
£20m for AWB is fair*

If I am wrong I will take my worldwide ban from football with good grace

*I mean these prices are not fair, but we live in a world where £20m sales are like a £600k signing back in 1992

From what we've seen so far he likes one defensive minded full back and one attacking.

He likes this asymmetric shape of a tucked in midfielder on one side and attacking midfielder on the other.

The issue is Nunes can't play on the left, Semedo is rubbish at attacking and Bueno is an attacking full back.

Maguire at wolves???????
Never in the reign of pigs pudding, in fact a nice link of pigs pudding would play better and certainly be quicker.

Maguire wouldn't solve the issue of us being extremely vulnerable if we choose to play any kind of high line.

Fair. Does Lop want to play a high line though?
