The Incoming Transfers Everywhere Thread: Summer 2023

Kelleher has not really been tested at this level for us to spend big money on him . He plays in the cups , is handy enough at saving penalties and so on .
He would need to play week in week out for a good while to really see how he would fare . It would be too big a risk I'd say at this point . Having said that Sa is getter no better and hates this playing out from the back to the point where his confidence is shot it seems .

Kelleher is tall , but slight enough for a big man . He didn't actually become a goalkeeper until aged 16 or something like that .

Ornstein reporting that Arsenal & Dortmund have both agreed a fee for that Spanish full back we were linked with.

Yeah, it's all very well us being "interested" in players like this, but realistically, as soon as one of the big boys come knocking, we haven't got a hope in hell.

No game for us now for a couple of weeks, so I guess we can concentrate on the transfer window and getting a couple more players in, ready to attack the last 19 games.

Top priority for me would be a number 9, but I actually don't think we'll sign one now. Just a feeling.

I often find it interesting the way people keep referring to a ' no 9 ' or a ' no 10 ' - as to what we need.

I just want a goal scorer , someone who constantly gets into goal scoring positions and wants to take centre backs on . People can colour it whatever way they wish - but that is what it boils down to .

Aye, I do like the look of Cunha, think he's an intelligent footballer who will connect play well in the final third in Andy Keogh-Max / Bobby Firmino-Lite kind of way, but I'm not overly convinced he's a goal scorer at all. I'd like to see him playing with another forward, and Sarabia/Podence either side

What you've described is a "number 9" to me. Of course, people may have different interpretations. But yeah, I want the same type of player as you. I don't think we'll get one because of the amount of money we've already spent.

I think we've solved the worst problem we have. We will score more goals now we have the likes of Lamina, Sarabia, Cunha - said it several times, but our biggest problem wasn't that we kept missing chances, it was the complete dearth of any chances. We were incredibly predictable to defend against, we had zero creativity and it was painful to watch.

We will create more with our new additions and I think that we've already had a good window TBH.

Of course, if a good centre forward is targeted and becomes available, that's awesome because it's definitely an area in which we need to improve, I'd just argue that it wasn't the #1 priority when JL took over.

But who knows? Still a week left.

Seeing as we need a few more homegrown players would anyone want us to go after Jordan Pickford in the summer if Everton went down and we stayed up? I'm not his biggest fan but he's better than Sá.

Obviously I'm unaware of our remaining budget or serious targets, but I'd also like us to get a striker in who could be a better option than a Raul that still isn't firing, or a Costa that's mainly just a body on the pitch.

Maybe a Dawson equivalent up front, doesn't have to be a prestige signing, but a strong central option who knows where the goal is

Can see Spurs moving for him. Depends on who they get to replace Conte though (His contract is up in the summer and doubtful he signs a new one)

Could even see Chelsea looking at him. With Kepa being shit and Mendy was having a mare early in the season.

I think Pickford would be looking for a team higher up the food chain than us after years treading water at Everton

Strong rumours that Lampard is getting the boot today which isn't good news for any of us scrapping towards the bottom of the table.

Everton need a big sale before the end of June to comply with their FFP obligations so he'll go early in thr window, that could give us an opportunity we wouldn't normally have if other interested parties are still firming up their plans. Otherwise as Kenny says I think he'll have options higher up

Aye, always figured it was like Newcastle and Geordie, but figured it best to clarify before accidentally offending someone.
No it's not offensive at all. All Scousers would recognise the expression and not feel slighted by it.
It is exactly the same as called a Newcastle lad a Geordie.

Definitely creation is the biggest problem.

We caught brief glimpses at the end of the City game of how Cunha comes short and links Podence/ Sarabia in.

I still think that's the way JL will go. Lot to ask of Pod, Sarabia and Neto and I'd like us to add one more IF and a creative 8/10 type but I think both will happen in the summer and not now.

I think of a Number 9 as a striker that plays centrally and is the most advanced player on the pitch most of the time. They’re the one getting into the box at every opportunity to get on the end of things. No particular physical attribute just a desire to score goals. Sturridge and Bull were completely different, just as Haaland and Aguerro are, and each one requires the team to set up in a certain way to get the best out of them.

If we had regular goal scorers in the team already we could look at a different style of forward. Someone who holds the ball up and creates for teammates. A Heskey or Toshack type of player but we need someone who scores more than we need a creator.

Scousers are called that, because the local dish they eat is a stew called scouse.

Geordies are because they were on the side of king George in the Jacobite rebellion against the Scottish king James, who wanted to take the crown.

Mackems are from Sunderland just up the road, comes from anything you want building we’ll make em.

Smog monster, monkey hangers, clay heads, sand dancers are derogatory depending on context I think

Brummies, yams( people from Wolverhampton and a bit of the surrounding area) yellow bellies ( Lincolnshire), are fine.

I can pm you with the dull details if you really want to know
Why are Dubliners called 'Jackeens'
