The Football News Thread 2017/18 - everything not Wolves

Great idea, although it's not really needed. There's already rules/punishment in place to deal with dissent and diving, the referees just chose not to use them.

I'd rather see XI v XI and see a player subbed for something which is a daft 2nd yellow offence (pulling a player back or calling the referee a tit). It would allow the player to cool off and the game doesn't necessarily suffer.

I would like to see a sin bin trialed too.

Well no because you are just promoting cynical fouling if there no punishment. Midfielders could Just break up play repeatedly and not be worried about the second yellow (or the manager won’t have to think about subbing them) as they can just sub them when The inevitable happens rather than have to “walk the tightrope”. I’d like to see it used for stuff like diving, but even then, harsher and more consistent retrospective punishment is all which is needed to stamp that out

You can still get a second yellow and be sent off so I don't see how it promotes anything like cynical fouling.

Well I’d assumed you were advocating changing the rule from being a second yellow to a green card.

No, just the introduction of the green card was an option from the second yellow or straight red. Doesn't mean you can't get them just gives the option for the refereee to give something when he/ she doesn't think the offence warrants a more severe punishment.

My concern with that would be if you give referees an opportunity to bottle it, guess what most of them will do...

Oh yes I have no doubt that they will go green but at least that's some punishment rather than bottling it completely and doing nothing.

Yaya played against us at the Etihad. I'm 37 now, still got a touch too much timber and I'm held together with sticky tape, I am miles quicker than him.

I was just going to say, we were able to break quite quickly because as their holding player he had nothing like the mobility to stop us on the counter attack. Part of City's problem in Pep's first season was that they had to rely on Yaya far more than they should have because of injuries/suspensions.

Dr Ross (!) in Boston MA has released a statement saying that following medical examinations of Karius, it has been determined that he suffered concussion in a collision with Sergio Ramos which affected his vision and decision making for the majority of the Champions League Final...

1) Makes things even worse for him.

2) Fucking shame on Liverpool for letting him stay in the match.

Yaya doesn't seem to understand why Pep didn't play him very much this season!

Also claims he doesn't like african players (not in linked article but quotes elsewhere)

I can only think of two African players Pep has even had the opportunity to coach that were good enough to fit in his side. IIRC, both (being Eto'o and Toure) simply didn't fit his style and were getting up there in age. Pep has a habit of clashing with all kinds of players.

I can find racism in a lot of stuff, but this just sounds like Yaya being a baby, and not for the first time.

Keita played 188 times for Barca under Pep, picking up 14 trophies.

Karius results came from a medical centre in Boston heavily funded by JW Henry. Make of that what you will, but this is from a country where the President dictates his own medical notes.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that back in February, Villa cashed in future transfer revenue due on Jordan Amavi from Marseille and Carlos Sanchez from Fiorentina in exchange for immediate money to help their cash flow.

In a document on Companies House dated February 2, 48 hours after the transfer window shut, the club sold on future income due on Amavi and Sanchez to the Australian Macquarie bank.

Villa sources insist the actions are normal practice to help cash flow but the unspecified sum received from Macquarie is likely to have been less than the two instalments of Euros 4million due July 15, 2018 and July 15, 2019 from Marseille for Amavi.

Yeah, this is all normal, nothing to see here.

This is unravelling quickly.

Lol, good old Maquarie always there to fuck over any company in trouble.
