The Film Thread

I am intrigued by it. Carol Danvers is my favourite character in reading the comics. She has had a RIDICULOUS number of origin stories over the years so I am looking forward to seeing the cinematic interpretation.

The parts in the slums in that film were filmed in Digbeth.

I enjoyed the flm, mainly due to spotting how many characters from games and films you could spot throughout it

The Shining sequence is ace.

Captain Marvel was great. Tremendous final battle too. When she finally lets rip it's like Rocky getting up from a knockdown. Excellent stuff.

The reaction to it has almost been like to The Last Jedi. Most either love it or revile it.

It's a perfectly solid Marvel movie. Not top tier by any stretch, but a firm 2nd or 2rd tier. Excited to see what she does in End Game now that she's had 20 years to hone her powers.

all the moronic "but wimun" neckbeard dipshits can fuck off

I watched it last weekend. It was fun but not quite as good as other Marvel stuff. Not as good as Wonder Woman either. It felt a bit messy to me due to the way they wanted to tell her story.

yeah it definitely suffered a bit but that's to be expected given she's coming into an established universe with a decade of movies. at least people like Thor and Guardians can go off in their own little bubble without having to justify themselves in the canon. Carol, not so much. It was fun seeing characters in the past though. Fury's secret is safe with me. :D

The reason it suffered for me was because of the muddled way it told her back story. I won't go into details because of spoilers.

New superheroes like Wonder Woman, Ant-Man or Black Panther didn't have the same issues in their first films.

Kermode got it spot on in his review IMO.

I thought the unusual way of handling the back story was a strength rather than a weakness. Also unusual in that the final battle pays off which isn't always the case in these films.

I loved the book but the film was pretty much 90% different so I had a hard time enjoying it.

I know what you mean about The Shining, but I was actually talking about a sequence in Ready Player One which takes place in The Overlook. It's pretty good fun.

I was talking about Ready Player One the book/film. They changed so much compared to the book I found it hard to like. The shining bit in it is great but isn’t something that happens in the book at all, nor is the race for the first key and loads of other stuff.

Ah, got you. I thought you were talking about The Shining as everyone says exactly the same thing, that the book is different and way better than the film!

Looking forward.to.seeing Us and The Sisters Brothers, the book of which was fucking ace.

Not liked any of the DC stuff really. Wonder Woman was OK but the CGI looked like I'd done it. And for a child raised on Christopher Reeve the less said about Cavill's Superman the better.

Isle of Dogs is a brilliant piece of film making. An absolute delight - the animation is awesome, and there are plenty of funny moments as well as poignant ones. The cast is ace - well worth a look.

It's not Wes Anderson's best film (my favourite is Grand Budapest Hotel) but I love his style and it works brilliantly here.
