The Film Thread

Wes Anderson films are always worth a look.

I love Grand Budapest Hotel and was amazed Tilda Swinton plays the old rich lady.

She voices one of the dogs in this as well.

Was ever so slightly disappointed with Isle of Dogs, quite possibly because Anderson has set the bar so high. Whilst I love the style of animation, and Fantastic Mr Fox is one of my favourites of his, this for me was just a little flat.
But like I said, a high bar...

Just seen the trailer for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT.

And the Palpatine laugh in the background just gets me hugely excited. It looks amazing. Bring on December.

Now begins the seven month ordeal of trying to avoid watching the trailer...

Looks ridiculous. Cannot WAIT

To be honest, there are no obvious spoilers in there at all that I can see. Apart from Lando is clearly getting some airtime, and I am SURE the laugh was Palpatine. It makes sense as without Snoke now we do sort of need a BIG BAD EVIL GUY.

So apart from that massive, trilogy defining, gargantuan reveal, no obvious spoilers?

If it helps, you could write the whole script on here and it would contain no spoilers for me

I think I hated it.

If Rey is a Skywalker and Palpatine is alive, I will be beyond disappointed.

we have never seen a dark side force ghost. Anakin was redeemed before he appears at the end of jedi. Why should the force make that distinction - there must be a place for dark side force ghosts. Could we see all the previous jedi and dark characters having a scrap? Which involves the rise of (Anakin and Luke) Skywalker? Seems a bit too obvious. But why else was Palpatine laughing in the trailer as he has been dead for 34 years in the Star Wars timeline?

Palpatine is OBVIOUSLY dead. As is Ben Kenobi. As is Yoda. As is Anakin.

Rey's parents were in Kylo's own words "nobodies". I think it is unlikely she is a Skywalker. Unless by association with the fact that Anakin was a "nobody" in episode one (which I try and forget as it is so utterly appalling)

Let me rephrase: if Palpatine is the antagonist in any form of this movie, I'll be disappointed. He doesn't technically need to be alive for that.

I have so much love for the choices Johnson made for Ep 8; I would be very sad to see them minimized.

The title of the film implies to me that they will round back on Kylo/Rey's declaration of her parentage as mental or Force manipulation.

This is the big wahooney. The final big finish. It isn't going to be a cheap rubbish thing. Palpatine is going to appear in some way. But that laugh could even be as simple as the soundtrack of a holovid or something and then it is given front and centre in the trailer to get tongues wagging.

In other news, I am so glad to see from the trailer that there is some Carrie Fisher footage that she did before her death. I hope they deal with that without derailing storyline.

Plus we know Mark Hammill is in Ep IX. And he died at the end of Ep VIII. It has to sort of have force ghosts in it somewhere, but maybe they won't be central.

I just don't want it to be a fan service movie, or worse, one that folds to the mouth breathers who think Rey is a Mary Sue and that TLJ was feminist propaganda.

Color me skeptical, I guess. But I didn't like TFA's first teaser, either, and that turned out pretty damn well.

TLJ had strong female characters. That doesn't make it feminist propaganda for goodness sake!

It will be a fan service movie Alan. Otherwise, why make it. But not in the way you think. It isn't going to be about making grognards feel clever about themselves while jerking off to Leia on Jabba's sailbarge outfits. It is about the whole fanbase getting a brilliant conclusion. It will deliver.
