The Film Thread

The Runner. Ok but Nic Cage character was annoying.

The National Treasure films were awful, zero redeeming features. He's been in tons of absolute crap since he got in tax trouble.

He was brilliant in Wild At Heart.

Yeah I thought that was a decent film. His performance was nothing special though.

Went to see Legend.
I can see why it got mixed reviews. If ever a film could be accused of glorifying violence, in some ways, this is true here.
Ronnie always denied being homosexual. Reggie was not "the nice one", he was vile. The wedding was in a registry office, not a church.
Hardy is really good, but too much of the film is entertainment, rather than true.
Were they good to their mum though?

Watched Pride tonight.

The story of a lesbian and gay group who went into a Welsh pit village to raise funds and show solidarity with the striking miners, and the resulting consequences.

I know I am viewed as almost Thatcher's spawn and therefore probably you would think I would have hated this. Not a bit of it. You would have to go a long way to find a more bitter-sweet, poignant, touching, uplifting and glorious piece of film. Fantastically acted by a superb cast, a fantastic script at times both heart-rending and hilarious, often within mere seconds of each other.

A truly, truly brilliant film. So pleased I got to watch it.

I also watched Pride today, there was something in my eye at the end when the Miners joined the '85 Pride March. Although the pendant in me kept twitching at some of the factual inaccuracies

The Maze Runner.

Totally bang average - nothing especially wrong with it, but nothing stood out whatsoever. A poor mans Hunger Games. Which isn't original either. Still - it wasted a couple of hours that I could have otherwise spent slagging off Steve Morgan.

The spoof/comedy Spy. I found it neither funny or entertaining. Jason's worst film by far.

A few other films I've watched recently:

San Andreas - a non existent plot that makes Independence Day look like Shakespeare - but forget the 'plot', forget the atrocious acting and The Rock's biceps - fucking awesome effects of California being hit by a huge earthquake. I got what I expected from this. One quick point - there were TWO scriptwriters on this film. I haven't quite worked out what 1.5 of them were doing.

Sex Tape - a mate told me it was funny, and it has Cameron Diaz in the nip. Point 1 - it's not funny. At all. Point 2 - nah, not really. Utterly awful film.

Gravity - WHY didn't I go and see this in 3D on the big screen? Beautifully shot, really atmospheric, incredibly tense. Great stuff - thought it was excellent.

Loved Gravity, one film that really needs to be watched in 3D. Beautiful.

Going to see Everest over the weekend, heard only good things about it.
