The Film Thread

The Minions Movie - good fun, and I laughed more than my kids did but it's not as good as the Despicable Me films. I thought the supporting characters were a bit weak TBH. Kevin, Bob and Stuart were ace though. Worth a watch and was perfect for a lazy Saturday morning with my sproglings.

I tried to watch that the other night Mark. I gave up on it after 30 mins or so. Self indulgent shite.

I lost out in the vote so had to endure it, stopped paying attention as soon as he'd left the airport in Bucharest, no idea what sort of film it's even supposed to be, just so much random shit going on.

Trainspotting 2 talk again.

FWIW, Porno is a good book & would make a cracking film. However, imo Skagboys (the precursor) is the best book of the 3.

The overnight. A shortish film which in a way is a good thing.

So that's what couples do at a dinner round friends once the kids have gone to bed!

Just watched Ex-Machina.

Really good film. It starts tamely enough but just gets better and better as it goes along. Thought provoking and intriguing stuff about A.I. Probably one of the best films about the subject I've seen.

8/10. A definite recommendation.

The Rise of the Krays - Straight to DVD fayre but a decentish look at the early years of the twins. The casting is pretty shit and the acting isn't great, but if you're a fan(?) of the Krays then it's worth a look. If this had been crossed with Legend (the budget and Hardy playing both parts) it certainly would have been a real winner. 6/10.

Unstoppable - Unlikely heroes stop a runaway train from blowing up a town. Gave it a watch as Denzel Washington was in it but it's pretty standard stuff. Based on a true story it's pretty obvious how it's going to end up. It passes a couple of hours but by no means a must watch. 5/10.

Run All Night - Liam Neeson's annual action flick was more Walk Among the Tombstones than Taken. Thought it may be decent with Joel Kinnaman starring alongside Neeson but he's failed again to reach the heights he hit in The Killing. Another movie that's just too predictable with some extremely wooden acting. 5/10.

Seconded....a fantastic film.

The new Cinderella. Put this on whilst thinking 'Why!' After 5 minutes I was hooked! A lovely version with a good cast. Not saying you blokes would enjoy it but your daughters might. The best version of Cinderella by far . Loved it.

Although I don't think he was overjoyed at the thought of sitting through it, hubby enjoyed it too :)

Mrs HW and I watched Child 44 this afternoon.

I'm not a great film fan but this was excellent. Yes...not perfect, but very enjoyable.

It's had very poor reviews but take no notice, An excellent 120 minutes of entertainment.

Started watching The Sweeney again Thursday night, and as much as I abhor Ray Winstone I forgot how decent a film it is. Fell asleep half way through but that was through to being knackered and not the film being shit.

The Runner. Ok but Nic Cage character was annoying.

Went to see Legend.
I can see why it got mixed reviews. If ever a film could be accused of glorifying violence, in some ways, this is true here.
Ronnie always denied being homosexual. Reggie was not "the nice one", he was vile. The wedding was in a registry office, not a church.
Hardy is really good, but too much of the film is entertainment, rather than true.
