The Film Thread

He built a skate park in their house but as you say I'm sure the royalties from the brief existence of Camp Kill Yourself probably sorted that out.
I was thinking more along the lines that they wouldn't have even had that house without his Jackass money, so if they have to put up with the odd day of turmoil it's surely better than what they'd have had without him being part of the show?

I'd say the good things, cars, houses, adventures gained from the Jackass involvement far outweigh the moments of inconvenience. Which I'd also imagine are pretty infrequent I'm reality, just seems more relentless when you're sat watching the compressed version of events on TV.

The wife and kids were away this weekend so managed to watch some things that didn't involve dancing or bitchy American teenagers.

The Jack Reacher movie with Tom Cruise. Surprisingly OK if you take it as a standalone film and don't compare it too much to the book, though it didn't manage to retain some of the dodgy dialogue.

Bronson - awesome film about Britain's most violent criminal. Tom Hardy is brilliant in it.

Whiplash - enjoyed it a lot.

And now over to the Gogglebox thread...

A Single Man. It is beautifully shot, with very precise character roles, great acting and is a perfect study in grief and the way it eats at you, especially in the face of prejudice. It was directed by Tom Ford who is also a fashion designer and the whole thing is just wondrous to look at. Be warned - if you're of a weepy disposition make sure you have your hanky to hand.

After a long weekend of doing far too much, I decided to chill out in front of the telly and watch some films, so I watched Guardians of the Galaxy and Interstellar.

GOTG - it was okay but TBH I'm struggling to see why it got such positive reviews? Nothing specifically wrong with it, and maybe I'm just a bit sick of the countless Marvel films that keep appearing all over the place but there was nothing particularly new here. Thought Chris Pratt was good and it certainly looks very pretty but I wasn't bowled over by it.

Interstellar - absolutely magnificent. Despite being absolutely shattered after overdoing it since Thursday, this completely captivated me from start to finish. I do enjoy Christopher Nolan's films and I think this is the best he's done. Some of the science admittedly baffled me a little bit at times, but the concept is interesting enough to never make me think 'fuck this complicated shit'. And by the end, I don't really think it matters if you haven't grasped it all - you'll get the gist of it and that's the most important thing. The only negative is that I couldn't understand what Matthew McConaughey was saying some of the time. Stop mumbling, man - you're trying to explain science here and it could be mega important! Also, the music was beautiful and fitted perfectly with the atmospheric visuals. I loved it.

Agreed. Beautiful film.

I never had any problem with dialogue in True Detective. Other than it being a bit shit at times.

Watched Interstellar on demand last night, good film but the sound quality was atrocious.

Pixels.

Oh my God. Took the kids as they really wanted to see it, but what a load of unadulterated shite. A truly dreadful movie. Peter Dinklage, seemingly bored as hell, acting by numbers from cliche to cliche, and bar a couple of decent lines from Adam Sandler there was just nothing to recommend it.

At the end, I spent the big fight finish identifying characters from arcade games that I had played rather than caring about the outcome at all. Rancid in so many many ways.

I guess that is what they hoped to happen TBH.

The scene in Wreck-It Ralph where the bad guys are having counselling was heavily talked about online, so some wise guy decides to make a Movie to get that "nostalgic feel" going again.

Awful stuff really. I spotted the following that I can remember between sleeps

Pac Man
Space Invaders
Galaxians
Phoenix
Galaga
Paper Boy
Frogger
Donkey Kong
Centipede (that fight may have been the best bit)
Defender
Mario

etc etc etc

The reliving my childhood of bunging 10p in arcade machines was probably the best bit for me

Aww I was hoping to hear something positive from this. And I know you appreciate turd films so I trust your judgement on this!

Inside Out is supposed to be the one to see. Getting rave reviews.

Man, im depressed to hear how shit Pixels is...was off to watch it next week and just thought the bad reviews was the continuation
of reviewers hating everything Adam Sandler does....(as seems the trend)
Inside Out was stupidly overrated to me especially when 2 of the characters are very underused.

One nice moment was the number plates of the four minis were the names of the ghosts in original pac man. Clutching at straws.
