The Film Thread

Pixar are barely putting out good movies these days. It's been a pretty rapid decline from the heyday of Up and Wall-E.

Bugs me that people say the idea of Inside Out was novel. The Fairly fucking Oddparents did just about the same storyline.

The Water Diviner. Thumbs up and a 7/10 for me.

I saw it on a plane in January. I wasn't too impressed tbh.

Finally watched Birdman last night. Sublime film, Innaritu really is a master of the craft.

Didn't understand a bloody minute of it. Worst film i've watched this year.

Not at all. It's just simply down to personal preference. I wasn't that impressed with The Judge. It doesn't mean that it is a shite film. I just didn't enjoy it.

But I couldnt understand what it was about. Hubby hates it when I don't get a film and I get that look on me face. He does a  and mutters something like ' oh fucking hell here we go ' cos he knows im gonna start asking questions!

I may try watching it again one day. See if I can fathom what the jist of it was.

Character studies like Birdman tend to be relatively polarizing. Naught wrong with you, Sue.

Just watched 'Life of Pi' - one of those films that I thought I ought to have seen.

Visually superb & enjoyed it more than I expected (apart from the 10min catnap - after effect of wine with the evening meal & having the massage chair operating) given that its more than a bit surreal

That film always leaves a bad taste in my mouth; the FX company working it went bankrupt almost immediately after it released.

Blended.

Wanted an easy watch that I didn't have to concentrate on, saw it had Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore in, so plumped for it.

I don't think I've ever seen a film that so perfectly balances tears with laughter. It's genuinely heartbreaking at times, and then seconds later you're belly laughing. You kind of know what's going to happen all the way through, but it doesn't take anything away from it. Brilliant film.

How is it a great film? In what way?? The storyline, the actors, or what???

There's one long sequence where the camera work is exceptional, the director is as much an artist as story teller.

I didn't like The Judge either, thought the script lacked real depth.
