The Film Thread

A lot of people raved about it when it came out.

500 Days Of Summer - I really like both Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, but this film was a bit pants. Shame as it looked like a feel good sort of film but was anything but.

Inbetweeners 2 - It is what it is, Inbetweeners on holiday again. A few laughs here and there. I really like Emily Berrington so all was not lost. And jesus wept, the scene where Will plays the guitar and sings was utterly PAINFUL. I know it was supposed to be like that but there was literally no reason for him to decide to sing in such a high pitched voice.

Friends With Benefits - Caught this on TV whilst channel hopping. Better than I expected with a decent story and relationship. I didn't like the flashmob scene because I hate the idea of flashmobs, but other than that I liked it.

Thank God that fad only last a year or so. Atrociously annoying.

Fucking hell mate, did you run out of good films to watch?

No I've got plenty on My List on Netflix and on my hard drive.

The first one had been saved on my Sky box for donkeys so I thought I'd get it out of the way. Inbetweeners was an impulse watch as I fancied a comedy, and the latter was just because it was on in front of me and I'm lazy.

Jupiter Acsending:

Bonkers, silly, preposterous plot and characters, yet still managed to be entertaining enough to keep you along for the ride. Some bits were just too over the top and you stopped understanding what was going on because the set-pieces were just vast and complicated. It reminded me a little bit of The Fifth Element in tone, but obviously nowhere near as good. I give it a 6/10 as the entertaining bits canceled out the ridiculousness of it. I still enjoyed it more than Guardians Of The Galaxy though.

If I was a mod...

GoTG was jut bland and dull IMO. At least JA tried to be something even if it ultimately failed with a silly plot and dodgy acting (Eddie Redmayne being the main offender).

I was no huge fan of GotG but Jupiter was such an enormous disaster from beginning to end. It was truly a cinematic failure on every single level.

For those that like their Sharknado fix the 3rd installment titled "Oh Hell No!" is out on 22nd July in the US on Syfy and will air within 24 hours in the UK on the same channel.

Trailer:

Apparently Jedward are in this one.......

Oooh interesting - this could make a really good film if they get a decent enough script.

There was a series of books about Han Solo pre a new hope written in the late seventies and early eighties. Han Solo at Stars End was one. I had them and they had pretty decent plots. Hopefully someone involved with the films has copies as they are considered pretty much cannon by Star Wars buffs.

EDIT - there were three books (Stars End, Han Solo's Revenge and Han Solo and the Lost Legacy)

At the end of the Lost Legacy the Falcon is damaged and Solo resolves to borrow money from Jabba the Hutt to attempt the Kessel Run so it pretty much fits into the A New Hope plot, where Solo has completed the Kessel Run and now owes Jabba some serious wedge.*

*cash, not Wedge Antilles

Anyone seen the film "Whiplash"?

Just wondering what your thoughts on it were. For what it's worth, IMDB rates it at 8.6 but I really can't see how it got that?
