The E&S Classic Match Reports

How about the reverse. Great debuts but were rubbish afterwards?

Guedioura for starters.

Didn't Havard Flo score on his debut?

I liked early Seoul too :D

There's no accounting for taste...

Flo got his first goal vs Arsenal, his second game. Didn't score on his debut as it was 0-0.

Great debut, shite thereafter - Ryan Green.

Shaun Bradbury?

Don't think Bradbury played even another minute of first team football at Molineux after his debut. I assume he played on the final day of 92/93 at Derby (Mark Turner's one and only Wolves appearance).

Doumbia? Started off brilliantly and got progressively shitter?

Great debut, $#@!e thereafter - Ryan Green.

More "utter idiot" afterwards. I don't think anyone ever doubted Ryan Green's talent, just the fact that he'd rather go out and get utterly smashed all the time than bother being a professional footballer. A real waste (and waster).

Managing to show less professionalism than Mark Davies took some doing - at least Davies didn't just spiral instantly downwards.

Tony Dinning. Ran the game and scored against an admittedly appalling Norwich side, and came nowhere close to recreating that form again.

Dinning was quality in his first three months or so. Immense vs Watford when we drew 2-2 against them when they were right at the top of the league with Fulham. Then he had a back problem, Lee/Jones both kept switching him between centre half and midfield which didn't help, then he decided he didn't fancy fighting for his place when we signed Cameron and Rae in 2001.

We had a young winger called Paul Butler, it was a night game around late seventies early eighties, we were playing Southampton? and Mick Mills was the current England full back, Butler absolutely ripped him apart, not sure what happened to him after that.

Darren Roberts must be the ultimate in this category

Neil Emblen should win the terrible debut -> went on to be alright category.

Didn't Ketsbia score two screamers on his debut?

One legitimate screamer, one disallowed because the ref decided he wasn't ready.

The thing is that was an immediately doomed signing as Lee had no idea how to use him. Piped up in October when he was dropped saying "I'm struggling to fit him into a 4-4-2 as he isn't a striker and can't play central midfield". You don't say Col, shame anyone who had seen him play in the previous three years for Newcastle could have told you that before you bought him.

Didn't Michael Gilkes have a decent debut and turn shite shortly after or is my memory fucked?

He started off ok in general (nothing particularly special on debut as I remember) but got injured after about 6-7 games. We managed to get two cruciate injuries in the same game, Gilkes and Corica at Port Vale. He was proper rubbish when he came back, although we were playing him at left back predominantly and he was not a left back.

Actually thinking about it our good friend RoJo had 2-3 absolute stormers when we first signed him. Looked like the bargain of the season!
