The Cricket Thread

This isn't enough. You don't need (and won't get) 350+ at Lord's but 240-250 is short.

It's on Livingstone for me. Knowing we didn't have much to come that was just ridiculous. There were 20 overs left FFS.
Looks like it will be enough. India need 124 off 20 overs and they're six down with a long tail. Shami has no business being at eight.

They did. We don't get it enough from either but they were excellent.

Topley 6-24 off 9.5 overs

Best ODI figures for England

After Bairstow in the Tests and Topley yesterday, I assume Roy gets 150 in the next game to complete the trifecta of players being slagged off in here going on to be amazing!

I think it might be a stretch for Craig Overton to ever do anything...

I know it sort of comes with the territory with Roy, he will have dips in form, but he looks so frantic at the moment. I also think all the top players now only playing 50 over cricket when they're with England after the domestic tournament was devalued is causing issues with how to pace an innings properly.

I think there’s definitely a case for giving Salt a chance and taking Roy out of the firing line.

ODI squad vs SA:

Buttler
Moeen
Bairstow
Carse
Scurran
Livingstone
Coverton
Potts
Rashid
Root
Roy
Salt
Stokes
Topley
Willey

T20I squad:

Buttler
Moeen
Bairstow
Brook
Scurran
Gleeson
Jordan
Livingstone
Malan
Rashid
Roy
Salt
Topley
Willey

Stokes rested from the T20Is and won't play The Hundred either

What an ending. Imagine if Lancs had Buttler and Livingstone, but the ECB want to kill the competition so there you go.

Buttler pretty much never plays for Lancs tbf. And the ODIs are where they are because India decided not to play a Test last year.

I didn't realise who Ben McDermott was until his interview and you see he's the spit of his old man

The new FTP is a load of shit.

The IPL window (which shouldn't even exist) is now two and a half fucking months. Covers parts of March and June as well as all of April and May. No international cricket during that time. Fuck off with your bloated shite, it's awful to watch anyway.

Also Australia and England won't play during the BBL or the 16.4 Overs which is also nonsense but at least doesn't extend over nearly a quarter of the year.

They're domestic leagues, they shouldn't be having that level of primacy.

Really enjoyed watching the final yesterday, having not paid any great attention to T-20 domestic stuff before. It was actually driven by having had the kids of some Valencian friends staying with us for a couple of weeks, ostensibly to improve their English. My selfless contribution to this endeavour was to educate them in rugby, cricket and golf by volunteering to watch as much as possible with them and my son. From the obvious standing start on cricket in particular it’s been brilliant getting to the point where they were gutted to be going home this morning as they’re going to miss the decider in the India series. The final ball mayhem last night was a great conclusion to their induction.

Anyway, this year I made an effort to follow a couple of things I’ve been aware of but never really followed - IPL and Rugby League. Trying to keep an open mind Ive enjoyed the League - mainly through the BBC highlights but the odd full game. Plenty to like about it and I reckon I’ll go to a match next year. The IPL though… dearie me. I’m sure there’s plenty of nuance that’s escaping me but the quality just seems shocking. Lots of (often ageing right?) pie chuckers chucking pies in the gloaming. T-20 for me was all about the festival feel yesterday seemed to have and a great way to get kids into the game - even ones who have had zero exposure to it before as I’ve just seen. Months worth of nothing else and lending it a seriousness it can’t support? No thanks. As for the Hundred, hopefully we’ve just got to endure it until those responsible for dreaming it up have left the exec and we can put it down without them being embarrassed. Maybe easier now that clown Harrison is leaving the ECB?

Quick read back of all that - yep, I sound like a right boring old fart. Oh well, clicks ‘post’…

India win the Toss (again) and bowl first

England unchanged

Not that it made any difference to that Iyer catch as you'd expect Monty to take it 100 times out of 100 but why the fuck have India got a sub fielder on after 1 over...
