Our last month under GO, we were a similar disorganised mess. If he had clung on for 1 more game, we would have lost at their place and been 8 points behind them I think
Things to note on the past 6 promoted clubs.
Sheff Utd/ vastly under prepared and made zero attempt to survive.
Burnley poor transfer business and stubborn coach
Luton over achieved massively and couldn’t sustain things
Saints vastly under prepared and a stubborn head coach
Leicester lost their manager, dreadful transfers and poor replacements
Ipswich over achieved and probably had to many spaces to fill to be close to be ready.
Still a case of get your business right and you still have a chance.
A common cause of failure for promoted clubs is trying to play in exactly the style that got them promoted without adding much quality. What works against Bristol City and Stoke doesn’t work against the majority of established PL teams, and given the poor efforts of promoted teams that’s now the whole PL apart from the other promoted sides. Southampton and Burnley are particularly guilty of this approach. The other major cause of failure is recruiting with relegation in mind. Buying players that will help you bounce back virtually ensures you’ll be hoping that is the case come the end of the season. Norwich, Ipswich and Luton I’m looking at you.
