The Cricket Thread

And back into really needing a wicket mode. This pitch has been a bit shit, but it is certainly providing a match of ebbs and flows.

Rehan bowling 14 overs while the other 2 are on 57 between them is a bit odd

The deficit is pretty significant on this pitch. Going to have to bat very well indeed to have a chance.

I was being ironic FFS. We were in a review about being 2 down when I typed it!

The game was lost between lunch and tea yesterday with some odd bowling and captaincy

100%. 265-8 we should have been looking at 20 deficit (at most). 170-odd for 7 we should have been getting a decent lead.

If Stokes basically cannot bowl, his batting is verging on reckless, and his captaincy and management of bowlers is at best slapdash, one probably has to ask what the point is now?

Shan Masood must have had an early afternoon appointment he didn't want to miss.

I'm sure he can bowl, the chronic knee injury is gone, he's coming off a serious hamstring tear ahead of schedule here and has played in two games where seam has been increasingly superfluous. He bowled plenty (and well) vs West Indies this summer, and averaged 48 with the bat. He's also clearly an excellent captain, his use of Rehan on day two was strange but everyone makes a misstep at times.

He has an oddly poor record in Asia but it's unlikely to ever be much of a factor again - we don't play there again until 2027 when we tour Bangladesh, and he'll be pushing 36 by then.

Bethell is going to get called up for NZ as Smith does parental duties
