The Cricket Thread

Mott sacked, Buttler staying as white ball captain (more for lack of alternatives, I suspect)

Pennington injured now so unlikely to play vs SL.

Cook is fit again so I would expect him to join the squad.

Or not...

Stone in. Crawley ruled out so Lawrence is set to open and Jordan Cox of Essex is the new spare batter.

That's Olly Stone who has been fit for half of Notts' matches which to be fair is half more than he usually is and is taking wickets at 47 a piece

And will be 32 by the time of The Ashes, which is what we're told we're building towards.

Cook's never getting a go by the look of it.

IF the County 50 over tournament counts for anything then Ed Barnard deserves a call up when they are experimenting

Awful news, absolutely no age at all.

He was my favourite batsman when I first started getting interested in cricket when I was about 10/11. Loved watching him bat

Brilliant player. Basically the only batsman we had in the 1990s who could play spin.

Desperately unlucky to miss out on 2005, he'd been averaging 50+ since he came back in 2003. The conversation should have been Bell or Pietersen, not Pietersen or Thorpe.

Similar early first third of his career to Root, a lot of nice 70s without going on. Like Root he fixed it.

19 years ago today. Flintoff's career was one of moments more than sustained greatness, but when he was on, he was on.

He was very special on his day. Always wonder the player he’d have been if he’d been more committed to his fitness when he was still playing.

I saw a new programme of his being advertised the other day and I hadn’t quite realised the mess that his top gear crash had caused.
