The CHRISTMAS Thread

Got chuck in everything I guess.

Presume a local business buying decent produce, renting a spot at the market, fuel to run their wagon, wages for themselves and maybe help + the requirement to make a profit.

£9 may sound ridiculous but I doubt they clear much profit from that amount
I bet they make a decent profit...

Weekend in Birmingham so went to the Christmas market yesterday evening.

Firstly, fair play, that is a cracking market to be fair.

Secondly, dangerously crowded. Security tried to get a circular flow going but it was hopeless. Quite literally unable to move at times and you did think this could turn into a crush.

Was far more impressed with the market than I was expecting but they are going to have to do something about crowd management because that was on the cusp of trouble.
Haven't been for ages, is it still designated a German Market?
Used to quite enjoy it in the early days but it got to a stage where I just felt like we were shuffling round in tightly packed crowds looking at over priced worthless tat.

There are signs saying “Fankfurt Christmas Market” so yes indeed German, although I’m not sure what the qualifying criteria for the Frankfurt bit is specifically.

Credit where due though, it is very large and very pretty and would be quite a romantic place to have a beer or mulled wine at a quieter time. As mentioned previously the crowds needed managing on Saturday and it became (imo) quite dangerous, particularly at the top where the steps/fountain are.

Bratty’s were £6-7 and beer about the same, which is probably about the going rate for that sort of thing.

I quite liked the stuff for sale, typically German Christmas Market fayre, but that’s what keeps it festive and unique. Would rather that than go all out chavvy fun-fair or have stalls selling T-shirts and whatnot.

The crowds were a nightmare and their litter was shocking, but thought the rest was pretty damn good.

There’s usually a little more room up by Victoria Square, down by New St it’s awful.

Maybe we need to revisit it, don't have young kids with us (unless I took the grandkids)

Better luck next time

Lots of places loaded up with Christmas decorations now. Into a proper heatwave now though. Walked back to a mate’s house from the centre of town and it was mind melting hot. Off to Brisbane on Sunday for a few days which will definitely be hotter again at sea level rather than 1,500 feet up like I am here.

£8 to see Father Christmas!! Having waited in the queue for ages for a ONE minute meeting and got a proper rubbish toy. What a rip off, FUMING!! So glad I never took the great grand kids!
