The Advice Thread

The only real option is to go to the ladies half way through each half mate, half time and pregame the queue looks like the queen's funeral. Right call on avoiding the gents, I'd rather hold my kid over a bin than let her walk in there.

Go to the ladies and find a decent looking (respectable,) woman and ask her to take them in for you. You will have loads of offers to help, certainly did when i took my daughter, so with twins....jackpot!

Any one used anything like this?

YurDoca Portable Air Conditioner, Personal Cooler Fan, 3 in 1 Evaporative With Large Capacity Water Tank, Quiet Mini Conditioner Desk Cooling Fan for Home, Bedroom, Travel, and Office, Grey https://amzn.eu/d/5DBrsPG

My little office is so stuffy with the door closed I need to do something. Was going to splurge on a real AC but will go for this if they actually work.

No I haven't used that one, but one that used the same principle and I wouldn't recommend it.
It'll be ok for a really small room/office and it's on your desk in front of you...
Ok, air moving is better than no air moving.
It'll be a little better as you put in ice cubes, but they'll melt pretty fast then you're back to air moving.
The cool water might help maybe a degree but once the water warms up..... air moving again.
I remember working on the railway, if the air con broke we were always told to keep it running. 'Warm air moving is better than no air moving.'
I think to summarise, get a proper air con machine that actually cools the air or just get a decent fan or two!

Most of our holidays over the last 20 years or so have involved touring Europe by motorcycle (A few weekend City breaks thrown in) and we've loved it, still do. However quite fancy treating my missus (and me) to something a bit different occasionally.
Thinking about a bit of winter sun during the October half term hols.
Doesn't have to be hot and sunny but would like warm, 20+ degrees if possible and mostly dry.
Not interested in sitting on a beach or night clubs.
History, culture and enjoying some local food are more our thing.
Was considering places like Malta, Madeira, Canary Islands.
Recommendations please.

Are you starting from uk on own bike, or renting when you reach destination?
Might be a dumb question but have some ideas, and time makes a difference.

From the sound of it all of the boxes would get ticked with Marrakesh.

It’s a great place to go weather wise that time of year as it tends to still be reliable - sunny and dry. Unless you’re willing to go long haul you’re going to need some good fortune with the likes of Malta, although the Canaries would be a reasonably safe bet too.

Thing is, Morocco feels very different, a sort of long haul cultural experience but is just across the water from Spain. A world apart.

You’ll get your weather, history, culture and food, and it shouldn’t be a ball ache to get to or cost an arm and a leg either.

Edit: above is assuming the ‘something different’ means leaving the bike at home this time.

I’d say Morocco as well, it’s the closest furthest away exotic destination, ferry from Portsmouth to northern Spain, blitz across Spain, stop at Tossa have your photo taken doing double thumbs up by the sign, ferry to Morocco

It'll be a none biking holiday this time.
Might rent a little bike to get about.

Thanks for the advice. I'd quite like to save Morocco for going on the bike, its a (small) ambition to dip my wheels in the Sahara and to ride the Atlas.
For the week in October, we'll be flying in.

Try majorca/ibiza as a dual venue.
Both islands offer very different things to do and see.
Old town palma is magical,(find abajos bar a really medieval place full of flowers, plants and antiques in the old town walls)
And take the mini traim up to puerto soller village on the mountain top.
Ibiza is just something totally different, thanks to the brilliant gay community it has a flavour all of its own.
Tenerife, very tourist orientated down south, but titally different in the north, with its own volcano, worth a visit, and Fuerteventura, sister island and quite different.
As for greece, skiathos, skopelos( abba the movie islsnd) and Alonisos, three totally different islands in half hour ferry boat of each other.(airport on skiathos)
Obviously all of the places hire bikes, but remember greek drivers are completely nuts.

Lovely thing to do is book a week in Northern Corfu then walk down to the harbour and catch a 2 hour ferry to....
Albania! Mate of mine did that and had a lovely few days in Sarande.
Although Ksamil is a bit nearer.
I had no clue that Albania was so close to Corfu.
Hotel was lovely, food was cheap, decent beer for nothing and loads to see.

Been to Greek Islands, Turkey, Balearics and Canaries in the October half term. Being in Leicestershire and the break being a week before the rest of the country the prices were much cheaper than what you’d be paying a few days later. Had good weather at all places but with the odd couple of days of rain in the med destinations which you have to expect at that time of the year. Canaries were wall to wall sunshine. With school aged children our wants and needs were different to yours but Ciutadella in Menorca and the old Rhodes town were good places to visit for old buildings/history. Crete had some mini tours that took you to olde world small villages with off the track places to eat and drink at. I’m sure wherever you pick you’ll enjoy it and even in the good days the temperatures are fine for getting about and doing things.

Thanks for all the ideas guys, some I was considering already, some hadn't thought of.
Will check out all of them then see which the old girl prefers.

Just another point about the Mediterranean tourist islands, many places were getting ready to close up for winter so if you leave it later in October don’t be surprised if in resort areas shops/restaurants are closed. Probably won’t bother you if you are looking at places off the beaten track to explore but something to bear in mind.
