The Advice Thread

It’s very unlikely to be blown speakers. Sounds like earthing.
They were fine for 2 weeks, everything perfect, then I left the amp on for 2 days... if it is an earthing problem, is it an easy fix?
It's a NAD, but its quite old by now.

Does anyone have a new electric car that isn't an VW ID3?
Or more accurately, Does anyone have a new car that has an 'Automatic Lane Departure Warning system on it?

Yes to both. Works fine.
Ah good! Is there any way of turning it off, so that by default, if you want it on, lots of motorway driving for instance, you can go into it and turn it on?
At the moment the way my ID3 has it, it comes on every single time you get out of the drivers seat and its a real pain in the arse!!

I guess that will depend on the car and how its configured. I can have it switched off by default in my ipace, I quite like it though so have it on all the time.

Trouble is on these small roads around here and Ireland in general, it can be a bit of a pain... I was taking my daughter to school one morning (with it turned on) and ahead was a cyclist, no cars behind and nothing coming, I pulled out to overtake. No road markings at this point and as I went out and past him, the Lane Departure kicked in and pulled me to the left, which meant I just missed him! 'Jesus! Sorry mate! That was a bit close!"
Now you can override it by maintaining your position, but that initial correction is a bit unnerving!
So before I depart, I go into one screen (To say Hello Roy, then it loads my profile, as opposed to Hello Jane) then I go into Assist, then I tap the road marking on that screen, then I tap 'Off' on Lane Departure System, come out of all those and now I can start to drive...
But if I call at the Post office, then the shopping centre then the doctor's surgery, then the pharmacy and then at a friend's on the way home, I have to repeat that process every single fucking time. I'd just done all that when I realised I'd left my sunglasses on the seat behind me. I reached up and around to get them, my arse lifted off the seat and Bollox! I had to do it all again. (There's a sensor in the seat). VW say it's a European Road Safety requirement...
It can't be isolated!
Just wondering if anyone had the same problem and found a way around it.

Not sure how Lane Departure Warning works in the ID.3 but doesn't it "deactivate" if you pop your indicator on? As you have told the car you are moving out of the lane so it doesn't do the pull back on the steering wheel?

Well thats a weird co-incidence as I also managed to turn it on on ours and also cant turn it off! Annoying when merging on/off motorways or when lanes merge into single lanes

Yes, thats how it worked on my old Audi which will be the same as all VAG cars I guess.

Its worked like that on 3 cars I have had it on.

Next question on this thread:

Anyone with an ID.3 know where the indicators are...

Given that its a wannabe Tesla its probably buried in the touchscreen menus :)

Run the entire system (if it’s a composite of various units) through a single AC socket. That helps you eliminate a ground loop.

Actually Will, it's just an Amp + Marantz CD player, I have my phone (with Spotify and a dozen playlists) plugged into a connector which runs into 'Audio In' on the back of the amp.
But the hum starts as soon as I power up the amp. Nothing else connected or turned on yet.... Except the speakers.

Is the amp picking up RF?

Well.... there's at least 4, one on each corner of the car, but I've just been to check and they're not individually switched...
Actually, I know where you're going with this.
If I drove properly, and I indicated every single time I pulled out for ANYTHING, it would know I haven't fallen asleep and probably wouldn't correct me.
Thing is, I do indicate on motorways, proper driving in'it?
But on little local roads here in rural/urban Ireland often with no road markings if there's no one around, I probably don't indicate , BUT it's not only when overtaking a bike, because it's done by sensors there's a camera behind the rear view mirror and it knows when you're on your side of the road, so even if you pull out because there's a brick in road, or a large hole, or a fucking big puddle, it'll correct you and pull you in then...
