The Advice Thread

I’d say Morocco as well, it’s the closest furthest away exotic destination, ferry from Portsmouth to northern Spain, blitz across Spain, stop at Tossa have your photo taken doing double thumbs up by the sign, ferry to Morocco
Tossa de Mar is a lovely place and hardly any to be seen either...

If you’re open minded with a few options rather than one specific destination in mind then definitely have a shufti at Travelzoo. They have a weekly top 20 of heavily discounted deals which get you to some pretty cool places relatively cheaply and might open up more options again.

We’ve been booking with them for about 10 years and have been all over the show going where the deals take you and using the money saved to spend on the next one. It’s a different way of looking at it but you get to most places you want to go in the end, just not necessarily in the right order!

It can be worth a look as a one-off too. There’s currently a deal this week (list gets published every Sunday) for Lanzarote with October dates. Do check carefully though as some specific dates can be excluded (perhaps half-term etc) and things like airport transfers and maybe baggage allowance can also be excluded but they are easily researched and factored in. Check flight times and the meals, full/half/all-inc - these can normally all be upgraded for a fee but at least you have the option. If there’s nothing doing or it doesn’t stack up walk away and look again next week.

Always some really good value nice romantic hotel and dinner breaks on there to keep an eye on as a birthday/anniversary treat and other random stuff too.

Anyway, no harm in looking.

This is something I always fancied doing, cruising on a Freight ship.
Have a read of this site www.thrillist.com/travel/nation/what-the-hell-is-a-cargo-cruise-magnificent-that-s-what
There are some good links at the end.
If you and your wife has a seagoing stomach, There used to be a cargo boat Departed Newcastle bound for Norway. called at about a dozen ports all the way up the coast of Norway, loading and unloading stuff for the local people, fuel, cars, furniture, foodstuff, ironmongery, machinery, a tractor and so on.
Your cabin was gorgeous, brass portholes, lovely linen sheets on your bed, tv and somewhere to sit and relax.
In the winter they had an option; you could physically leave the boat half way up the coast, get a snow ski thing into the forest, stay in a genuine Norwegian log cabin for a few days then jetski back to the little harbour and catch the boat on the way back.
You'll have to search it out, it was years ago since I used the website and I've long forgotten it.

Any one used anything like this?

YurDoca Portable Air Conditioner, Personal Cooler Fan, 3 in 1 Evaporative With Large Capacity Water Tank, Quiet Mini Conditioner Desk Cooling Fan for Home, Bedroom, Travel, and Office, Grey https://amzn.eu/d/5DBrsPG

My little office is so stuffy with the door closed I need to do something. Was going to splurge on a real AC but will go for this if they actually work.
Not great from what I've heard off a mate who tried one. Someone else I know has one of the expensive Dysons and reckons it does a good job in a closed door bedroom i.e feels cooler and at least the air is moving a bit

Dyson AM07 that is

I think portable AC with the door closed and a window kit or the pipe properly fitted through wall/window is only true way of making a big difference. Or actual AC

Only just seen your comment, late reply!

Thanks and no probs.

I’ll see if there is a rip-off Dyson, that cunt will not get a penny from me.

Didn't he bang on about how we should leave the EU to create more jobs then when it looked like the business might suffer he moved his HQ to Singapore.

It's still very pleasant in Cyprus at that time of year, bit of everything there for you.
Was about to say exactly this, but don't hire a motorcycle. Get a 4x4 and go over the Akamas / that part of the island and keep away from the last of the tourists still there. Did it twice last year, might even go again at the end of this one myself.

my phone seems to have developed issues connecting to wifi recently.
think it did it once a few weeks ago. got home from work and it wouldn't connect. no idea why. left it overnight, somehow the thing connected and all was good.
went on holiday and whilst there struggled to get the venue wifi unless really close to their buildings (was in a caravan). wife had no probs.
since I came back of hol, 3 times have come home from work, and it won't connect, or connection is delayed until during the night. Had the same last night, and it still hasn't connected.
Unsure if it is related to the signal in any way, as that also suggests the signal is weak.
any ideas? its a samsung a20 i think. is it just time to get a new phone, or summat else?
No issues with the router. there is just a spinning wheel on the phone saying the phone is connecting, but that just repeats...

advance warning, I am a total novice with most tech stuff!

Sounds like it's possibly not getting assigned an IP address from the router.

You can assign the phone a static IP to see if that works. You can do this in your WiFi settings on your phone or even in the router settings.

I don't know whether you're Android or iOS so you'd have to Google how to do it on your phone.

If you struggle with different WiFi then it might just be your phone

Tried the usuals? Restart phone, restart router. If still doing it then delete the network from your phone and readd it. Maybe [once connected] log into your router admin and see if there's any info on there? Info should be on bottom of router

Next up, Tredders explains the Green Cross Code.
