If he can next explain why interest rates today pour fuel onto the inflation bonfire today compared to the 70s and 80s when council owned the majority of rental properties and cars were purchased outright rather than on lease deals it would be much appreciated ta.

I bought an advance ticket for Monday morning to Southampton but that train has now been cancelled… email said “Your ticket is valid for the next available Southern service that's departing from London Victoria, provided you're still within any relevant Operator and time conditions of your ticket (e.g. Off-Peak or Super Off-Peak)” but it seems that all those trains that day have been cancelled.

My next option from Victoria is to change at Clapham to get a different train service but does that mean my ticket isn’t valid anymore?

Just a bit of a 'Heads up' for most of you out there...
Regarding your House insurance, we have (as far as we know) most things covered and there is an excess of €250 on a first claim.
What we didn't know and were unaware of is that any claim for leaks or water damage, they shove the excess up to €750!!
"Because water gets everywhere and causes so much damage..."
So our claim for ruined flooring in our kitchen is going to pay out fuck all.
We actually claimed for 3 adjoining rooms as whatever we put down wouldn't match the rest of the rooms, but...
"I'm sorry but we do not cover 'matching up' and the claim will be for your kitchen only".
So 2 things here, though I don't know what you can do about it, that's why I've called it a 'heads up', and about once a month close off your main water stop cocks where ever they are. Just close them and open them. Same for your radiator valves.
It stops them jamming or sticking. (then when you want to close them to do a job, when you open them the seal disintegrates inside the valve and you get a little leak....)

Best way to get to London from Stafford?

We'll be heading home for a week in Nov, was wondering what is the best way to get to London from Stafford?
Last time we went the kids were tiny and they wanna day trip to London.
We'll be renting a car and driving up from Heathrow, is it best to go by train back down or take the rental and park close to the centre of London..?
Thanks :)

Trains are obviously a little unreliable for planning ahead at the minute thanks to @darlowolf64 and his mates...

If you consider driving then I have always found it quite easy to park near Stanmore at the end of the Jubilee line and get the tube in from there (it is also near the end of the M1 so convenient). I would use https://www.yourparkingspace.co.uk/ and book my parking on there.

Train's absolutely fine...if we don't have strike action by then.

Some from Stafford don't even stop all the way down.Train1.png

Train will be quicker, less hassle and more pleasant. You can get the rapid one form Stafford too. But obviously more tickets = more money whereas car is fixed cost regardless.

With regards to cost train/ car
I'm guessing the TfL has increased since 2011 (last time we went by car!)
I did try to look on trainline website but it appears that the sites for hooking don't go out as far as November just yet...
Mike any help? :D

Getting around London is remarkably cheap considering. Just tap in with the same bank card on every entrance/exit and it'll charge you at the end of the day and it'll always be the lowest possible price. Don't need to bother sorting an Oyster in advance or anything or trying to work out zones.

Only difficulty there is if the kids don't have a contactless card it can get a bit messy

The trainline app is showing times and prices for Stafford - Euston for November...

Hi Ray, drop me a message nearer the time

Just get an Oyster card, its free and it'll run up a bill all the way up to £8 max per day.
Max on Tube and buses anyway. We were there 2 weeks ago using the Uber boat up and down the river and taking the cable car back and forth from the Dome - can use the Oyster card for those but the maximum doesn't apply 🤣🤣🤣

Anyone had laser eye surgery? Getting fed up of glasses after many many years so quite tempted.

Not personally but my DiL and one of my mates had it done years ago and both were very happy with it. The mate now has to wear glasses again occasionally but he did have it done over 20 years ago, not sure if you can have it re done.

Water sometimes comes through top of window when it rains very heavily. I've had builders, roofers and window people in and none of them know what the problem is. Thought it might be flashing but don't really know what I'm talking about. Any thoughts welcome.

How old is the property? Is the window on the same elevation as the guttering?
