The 2014/15 Promotion Push Run-In Thread

Ipswich are not a problem as we have to play them, we just need Brentford to drop more points.......asumiomg we score as many as them after of course

That will be a tough game. I reckon we'll get around 12 points from our remaining games. I reckon we'll beat Leeds, Wigan and Millwall and draw against Ipswich, Birmingham and Forest, but who can really predict that accurately? Points against Boro and (a win for us at) Forest will be a bonus. Should we win five games we will surely be 'in the mix'. This is very tense.

4 wins and a couple of draws will be enough as long as one of those wins is against Ipswich

They play Derby on Good Friday, Ipswich play Bournemouth too. 2 more massive games.

Think I said earlier, there's at least 2 of the top 8 playing each other in every round of games between now & the end of the season.
That gives plenty of scope for a few interesting yet tense games!

Where we are now we have nothing to protect so may as well just go for it and attack & see where we end up - if its where we are now (and given that the nearest challenger is 8 points behind us it's not unlikely) nothing is lost & may give us the chance to play the extra games at the season end.

We have the attacking players to cause problems to anyone in this division.

I'm pretty confident right now, I have to say. The win on Friday has changed the league from three teams competing for one play-off place to four teams competing over two, thereby increasing our odds - and if you look at the forms of those four teams, Brentford look the least likely to make the distance, followed by Derby, then Ipswich, then us. Over the last ten games we've had the best form in the league (albeit joint with Watford, Norwich, Forest and Leeds), and all that's necessary to get through to the play-offs here is to maintain it as others falter, as they surely will.

I don't think we'll beat Boro in three weeks, but if we do then we might turn it into five teams competing for three places, and that only makes things even easier for us. Other than that, I think we'll get close to maximum points, though I hope that doesn't jinx it. I was very critical of Jackett in November and December, but he's not only proved me wrong, but done what he did at the end of last season: got this team avalanching downhill through the final few games, with extremely high confidence that can compensate for any technical or physical problems. Still not sure we'd be able to handle the play-offs, but I'd love to get a trip to Wembley this season.

I'd fancy us against anyone at home, we've beaten Norwich, Derby, Middlesbrough and Brentford at Molineux, should really have beaten Watford IMO and we all know what happened against Bournemouth.

One of Jackett's best traits is that he doesn't really let bad form set in - November was a shocker but in general whenever there's a blip he corrects it pretty swiftly. As I said the other day, we're averaging exactly 2 points a game since the win at Hillsborough ended our awful run - 19 games - so that's nearly half a season of title winning form.

Pedant alert: Unless my working is squiffy (quite possible) I think Norwich and Watford are slightly better than us in terms of form over the last 10 games, 23 and 22 points respectively to our 20.

It's quite funny because with our attack we should be better away from home than at home.

Thing is our form was poor and we weren't playing well. But it was also a combination of playing some of the best teams in the league (excluding forest). It was more the manner of defeats rather than the fact we lost.

Ah my bad, I misread the BBC's colour-coding on their tables page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/tables) - I thought it was six wins, two draws and two losses for each of those teams I listed, but you're right. Norwich have one more win and one fewer loss, while Watford have one more win and one fewer draw. Still, we're doing better than Boro, Bournemouth, Derby, Ipswich and Brentford, and those are the teams we need to be doing better than for the remaining games, so it's still encouraging.

What has happened to the BBC predictor. I was looking to have a go for the Championship and Premier League but cant find it. Is there another out there on the Internet?

Is this a good omen for us?? ;)

I got us sneaking 6th (with 81 points) in the final game ahead of Ipswich.

Derby/Boro - Auto
Norwich/Watford/Bournemouth/Wolves

7th & 8th - Ipswich/Brentford

I did a muck about prediction just to see how close I could make it. With not-too-outlandish manipulation of results (not to say that they will happen, because it is HUGELY unlikely) it is possible to set it up so that all of the top seven (which would include us) could get automatically promoted on the final day. Like I say, that won't happen, but it would be horrendous for the supporters of the teams involved if it did stay that close.

Oh fun! ... not fun. I don't why these predictors are so bloomin' addictive. Tis so pointless.

Here's my rubbish attempt. I thought I was being quite conservative with results, but apparently not. Missing out on the top 6 with 80 points is a tad ridiculous and unlikely. In hindsight I also realise I somehow had neither Derby nor Brentford losing again this season, despite thinking I was being conservative. Oops.

The top 8:

1. Watford (+38) 86 pts
2. Bournemouth (+45) 84 pts
------------------------------------
3. Middlesbrough (+35) 84 pts
4. Norwich (+32) 80 pts
5. Wolves (+15) 80 pts
6. Ipswich (+20) 79 pts
------------------------------------
7. Brentford (+16) 79 pts
8. Derby (+29) 78 pts

Exciting end to the season! Don't think I want Norwich in the play offs again mind you...

My silly mash-up ended up with it going into the last day with Watford on 83, Boro on 82, and the next five on 80. It won't end that way, but it was fun to see if I could make it happen. I was aiming for everyone on the same points but that was as close as I could get.
