Summer 2021 transfer window

They tried to some extent with Sanches, injury stood in it's way, they tried that other guy (Kamara?) too I think but apparently he didn't fancy it.

They could've taken a punt on any old midfielder in the name of 'trying again' but what's the point if you don't think they're the right fit?
So we go from Sanches or Kamara(?) to “any old midfielder”? You’d have been awesome on 5live’s Fighting Talk when you have to defend the indefensible.

It's very odd that we pursued Sanches so deep into the window. If he obviously wasn't going to be fit for ages - and we didn't give him a medical of our own, so we got that information from somewhere - surely we should have known that well before last week.

Clubs miss transfer targets, I get that and it's fine, happens to everyone (no matter what people from all over the place on Twitter will try to tell you, that <Club X> are the worst at business ever and no-one else can compete on that front). What concerns me is that sometimes it doesn't look like we know what we're targeting and the messaging is all over the place. It's never a good look.

The link to Moore and the less well established link to McBurnie got me worried.

Will Hughes would have been a cracking little signing for us for the next 2-3 years. Probably too much of a squad player though

Moore would have been the most obviously out of his depth player we've signed under Fosun I reckon, even worse than Gladon relative to status.

Probably the Egg or Nouble before that.

And that's the level we were looking at, really? When on earth was he ever going to play, let alone make an impact? I mean I hope it's mainly noise from Tim who didn't want to back down from going in full steam in the first place.

i've seen little of him other than recently for wales and was stumped by our interest. it made me worry whether inside the club there's a doubt about jimenez recapturing his form - not that this would have been an adequate replacement. the pursuit was equally bizarre - if we thought he was a good and necessary signing why wait until the last couple of hours albeit it being a fortunate miss. felt more like an afterthought to justify the other fucking around that was going on.

Time shouldn't run out, when you've got three senior midfielders. Start fucking earlier! Maybe check if kamara is even vaguely interested. It was rushed, lax and entirely inadequate across the board. Mendes was busy, and we're clueless.

Maybe Kamara was always backup to Sanches, and if you went for him earlier you put Sanches off coming?

It's been done to death but it's not like walking into a shop and buying a commodity, these are living breathing people with their own decisions to make, it's far from Wolves want = Wolves get.

It all felt a little too panicky and scattershot towards the end.

We put Bruno in with plenty of time, it felt like the club were chancing their arm they'd get a better deal at the last minute.

So as well as defending the indefensible you’re an expert in stating the bleeding obvious, quite an impressive array of talents!

If he was back up, why was he if he never wanted to come anyway? He could have been sounded out months ago to find out if he fancied it or not.

The idea that Sanches would pull out because we were showing an interest in a defensive midfielder is laughable to be honest, it just comes across like your grasping at straws trying to keep an argument going for no obvious reason other than maybe you like having arguments on the internet.

Are you honestly saying that it's OK, if/that the club had 2 potential midfield targets, one of whom was injured, and the other wasn't interested and we didn't know? Like really?

And that they were the only targets for a position in which we're woefully short? In the whole world?

It's mad that you can't just say "yeah, they've fucked up there".

Well Kamara is just a name, it could have been any alternative midfielder, any solid links anyone other than your first choice might make them a bit apprehensive if they're suddenly not seeing themselves as being the number 1 target. It could be anything, everyone is different, that's the awkward thing dealing with people rather products.

There have been several times I've considered other jobs since I started working at my current employer. Sometimes it's just been an interview and I've told them I'm not interested, other times I've gone as far as handing my notice in before being persuaded to stay. Every time I guess I've wasted some of another companies time to some extent by not ending up as their employee. Maybe that's caused them problems if they'd got me earmarked on something in particular and having to change to another candidate has lost them that opportunity. That's life, unfortunately for football clubs they have a very limited window for recruitment so those problems are intensified.

Sure you'll, or someone else, will shout about 'doing it sooner' as the solution but it's not always possible is it, you can always force things to follow your timeline, you push too hard and you might scare the other party away entirely.

Who said there were only two? I never put that limit on it.

Not many other businesses operate in recruitment windows so they don't have to wait 4 months to put things right.

Doesn't give them an ungodly power to control people's minds does it? It's not a straight forward process for clubs to recruit new players, it's obviously not going to go to plan every time.

It is much more likely to go tits up if you play high stakes poker in the last hours of the window.

Strange that despite this you've never had an employer ask your opinion on someone you have worked with before. :)

So you give up on your preferred targets early and settle for someone less able? Then maybe you're kicking yourself when your top target goes to a competitor because you were impatient.
