Summer 2021 transfer window

That's the rub, maybe they don't realise they have failed.

Maybe the objective in their eyes was to secure a bargain and nothing else, if nothing presented itself no harm done.
I'd maybe buy into that had they not been scrabbling around trying to get Keiffor Moore with a couple of hours to go, there was no way Cardiff were going to let him go at that point.

It reeked of desperation and was an embarrassment when the manager has been banging on about top players for months. Also if they thought they could get players like Botman at a bargain price, that was obviously a miscalculation as they couldn't. They misread the market to a massive degree, that's just incompetence.

Teams I’m certain will come above us this season

Man City
Chelsea
Liverpool
Man Utd
Spurs
West Ham
Leicester
Everton
Villa

Sides who probably think they’ve got a good shout of coming above us.

Leeds
Brighton
Palace
Brentford
Arsenal

Sides we should be coming above

norwich
Watford
Newcastle
Burnley
Southampton

With us keeping a fully fit squad we should be at least be coming 15th.
Key injuries however could leave us vulnerable, it’s a statement that about 70% of the league will say tho.
I know I’m going to be shot down but those out there that relegation is a worry that other teams will have and not us need to wake up.
Two bits of bad luck could be troublesome.
I think Brentford and Palace we should finish above. Arsenal and Leeds I'm not sure on either way right now. Brighton if they continue to improve as they have in the last 18 months probably agree with you on.

Think Brentford will have one of those ride the wave of emotion seasons, there biggest challenge will be next season. I’m just devil’s advocate really and viewing stuff from a 3rd party view point.
To add I think we’re in that middle bracket of sides who don’t expect to go down but know it’s very possible if things go against them.

I’m not sure with Brentford, they’ve started positively and that momentum might continue. Plus they’ve probably got a bigger squad than us… 😜

If say Soton too. They've improved their squad and team this window and Armstrong looks a good replacement for Ings and suits Hasenhuttl's style.

If we keep everyone fit, then we won't be in relegation trouble, however, if one or more of Traore, Neves, Raul, Moutinho or Donk get injured we will undoubtedly be fighting for our lives, and that's down to this appalling transfer window.

Hasenhuttl is a good coach but I look at their team and I think it's still pretty poor. I feel for him a bit (a bit like with Bruno after this window).

It wasn't a joke.....
Ah, I was only going on the tone of the rest of your posts this morning as they were clearly trying to be funny as nobody could write such nonsense without thinking they were just doing it for a laugh. Could they?

Are you looking for an argument or something this morning?

I really like the way Brentford have put their squad together and the club is incredibly well run.

I'd like Fosun to sell to a man like Benham (or Bloom at Brighton)

Now the dust has settled, Fosun really are shooting themselves in the foot. Don’t get me wrong, getting the club to the prem the manner they did, with our 3 seasons in the prem being great (yes, I will include last season as we stayed up fairly comfortably and we’re never in any real danger IMO) they have done well.

The issue being for me is the promises, and now the plan.

Fosun had the goal of making us a top six club, challenging for the league in 5-10 years (I think). Personally that is massively naive. With ‘financial fair play’ it’s near impossible to build a squad big and strong enough to compete at that level. I can accept abit of naivety, but hold your hands up and say, don’t try and pull the wool over our eyes.

bringing in a new manager which wasn’t overly received well, followed by 3 performances where even though we have no goals and no points, I felt there was a wave of optimism of how we were looking. At that stage, BACK THE MAN YOUVE BROUGHT IN. The players were were linked with, botman, sanches, kamara, hardly going to ‘break the bank.

feeling slightly disheartened and genuinely confused of what the clubs plan is and what Fosun s aspirations are. I’d be more than happy if we are just looking at being a stable premier league team and consistenly finish in the 10-14 bracket. No issues on my part given the Morgan years, but don’t treat the fans like a bunch of twats and atleast be clear with us.

I think in every case except for maybe Sanches, the higher profile players all decided they didn't fancy coming to Wolves (i'm talking Botman, Kamara, Caleta-Car, and i'm sure there are more we are not aware of). I wonder if this is Shi's own fault.

All the talk of "selling to buy" etc to drive prices down, will also permeate to potential new signings won't it? It's hardly the noises an ambitious club usually make. I think that will have had an impact on how attractive we are too?

A while ago we had a "project" we could sell to Jota, Neves, Boly, Moutinho etc. But what is the project now?

After the frustration and anger comes the sadness. Throwback just a year ago and we were in a European quarter final after 2 back to back 7th place finishes. Along with Leicester we were seen and proven to be the best of the rest.

Just 12 months later and it feels we have certainly fallen behind West Ham, with credible shouts to say you should include Everton, Villa, and Leeds in there. Maybe even Brighton

We are now in the hotch potch of PL teams who will make up the numbers along with Palace, Southampton, Burnley etc. I'd have snapped your hand off for that the day Fosun bought us, but having touched the heights we did it feels like a missed opportunity and has unravelled quickly

Some reality if the squad remains fully fit but is struggling in the bottom 3 that won’t be on the board. Even with the players we’ve got fit currently we should start picking up points sooner or later.
Really don’t want it to become a Rafa situation at Newcastle when every bit of poor form was blamed on the board and he was absolved of any scrutiny by fans and media.

It's such a shame because I think we're a good CB and CM from being a really excellent team.

This window was so important as with them we could have really pushed up the league and become a more attractive proposition. As it is, our best players are likely to leave and we'll be having to spend big just to stand still. Such a missed opportunity.

All true.

But while we're all in agreement now, it should be remembered that poor transfer windows were highlighted and constructively criticised by a few on this forum over the past couple of years, to less-than-receptive ears, it must be said.

I remember distinctly being chided during the 19/20 summer window after criticising our not strengthening the CB and CM positions, and told we didn't need to strengthen as we were already better than the likes of West Ham, Everton and Villa.

Shows the danger of standing still, certainly not a surprise to all
