Summer 2021 transfer window

We need that CB I think to either take us to the next level, or solidify our place in the top 10. Even if it's a case of scouting for a decent, young CB in Europe that we can integrate slowly.

Although it may be that with a full pre-season, Coady can be coached into that four-man defence role. At the very least, any new CB needs to have his passing range.

He lacks fundamentals to be a top player - pace, strength, his tackling/duels are “ok” and his positioning and reading of the game is either great or poor.

Too much there that can’t be coached. His passing range isn’t that important either compared to the other attributes if you’ve got a midfielder In front of you who can take the ball from you.

We can get by with him, but I can’t see him being top 6 material.

Agreed, but happy to be proven wrong and hope I am. If nothing else he's a very good squad player to have.

Moutinho needs to show a run of form to justify keeping him for next season. If he plays like the second half v Arsenal then fine. If he plays like the first half he needs replacing.
I would upgrade Rui as he doesn’t come off his line quick enough or often enough to play behind a back four. I would play Donk and Boly as centre halves for the rest of this season in a four . Height, strength and more pace. Coady , unfortunately is the fall guy for a flat back four. Jonny and Semedo make the four. I think OO deserves a shot next to Neves in the midfield and I would try that out for a few games. Same with Vitinha in the 10 role. Podence strikes me as a bit petulant at times especially when it’s not going for him. He certainly has the ability.
Traore will work if there is a focal point up top. Raul or WJ . Neto is POTS for me so is a shoe in .
If we are going back four this is the team I would play for as many games left this season and those marked with an asterisk are those I would look to upgrade in the summer.
Rui*
semedo Dendonker* Boly Jonny
Neves Otasowie
Traore Vitinha* Neto
Jose

naturally Raul for WJ . So this summers shopping is really a GK CB and CAM.

I actually think Rui was a bit better last night: made some decent saves and good calls to his defence when he wanted to be in control. Their goal was Semedo and Coady's fault, not Rui's. His defenders let him down nine times out of ten.

Bit bizarre him watching that ball that crossed the goalmouth that Kilman put out for the corner it wasn't a bullet cross and literally two foot out but he just stood and watched it ?

If we can find an upgrade on Rui then we should go for it, as we should for any player.

The issue is that finding someone better than Rui, who is willing to join us will be extremely difficult and a very small list

If you could name 20 keepers in the world I'd be surprised. And most of those 20 would either be not for sale or never join us.

He's not had a good season but I can let him off that one.

All keepers have their brain farts, even Ederson and Allison, never mind De Gea and Lloris. They're always more noticeable and usually more memorable than outfield players'. Rui is well down my list of players to upgrade.

Actually who am I kidding, Cyber will name Nick Pope.

Look forward to spannered kicks, never ever claiming a cross and letting in any shot over his head. He succeeds because Burnley have the lowest of low blocks. And I say succeed, they're fucking below us and we've been shit for months.

Rui's perceived performances are also directly affected by whats going on in front of him

Perhaps Nuno can coach Rui a bit about commanding his box. With a flat four we need it. Pep was ruthless with Hart, England’s number one , because his attributes did not fit his vision going forward. This season there are at least five goals that are in the must fo better category
Newcastle
Spurs
Burnley
Chelsea
Palace

that’s almost one game in five this season that we are questioning our keeper for concession of a goal so it needs keeping an eye on . He is , overall, an excellent keeper on his day but he is not world class. His current stats are the worst in the league I seem to recall from another thread. Him Coady and Moutinho are the Three regulars whose places are most at threat for me.

Thought he was much better last night but I agree it needs keeping an eye on. You can't have your keeper letting in so many goals that should be saved.

The only thing stopping Pope from playing for a big six team will be injury. He will be at one next season .

I get you don’t rate him. Unfortunately , you’re in the minority. He should be England’s number 1 for the next ten years if his form maintains.

Next 10 years! He's 29 soon.

Gareth Southgate happens to be in the same minority as do all the Premier League managers of clubs better than Burnley that never sign him.

My word. Watch out Ederson and Allison, Pope is coming for ya.

Who you classing as Big Six. The Sky 6?

Liverpool - Nope
Man City - Nope
Man Utd - De Gea & Henderson, so nope
Chelsea - Settled on a keeper now
Spurs - Don;t think Lloris will be binned just yet
Arsenal - They only seem to buy idiots to go in goal for them. They stumbled across the fact they had a decent keeper last season and then thought fuck that off and sold him

Outsde of that
Leicester - Can't see it
Everton - Maybe if they finally give up on Tiny Arms Pickford

He kept us in the game last night with an amazing save to push Pepe's (?) shot onto the bar.

Rui will be our keeper for another 2/3 years after this season and I'm perfectly happy with that. He's let one or two in this season but generally his form since we signed him has been excellent. Best keeper we've had at Wolves in my lifetime and when he eventually goes/starts to get too old we'll have to spend a small fortune just to stand still in that position.
