Juve have signed Locatelli on a two year loan with a 35m obligation. Quite astonishing how they managed that, but that's Juve for you.

It's astonishing how the owners of Juve, just like in Spain with Real/Barca, have contributed to the financial problems their own clubs, and leagues, are facing.

The PL doesn't have the financial concerns, because of the TV rights....
The PL gets the ridiculous fee for the rights, because the league is competitive.
Compare Locatelli for £35 million, and Grealish for £100 million, and you soon begin to realise why fans abroad prefer to watch the PL.

I dunno, it's all a bit false equivalence for me (without getting into another discussion on Fabio, I think we all know he's nothing like a £35m player now, he certainly wasn't a year ago).

You could ask why Man Utd are spending £13m or so on a fee for Ronaldo and a further £480k a week when they obviously need a midfielder and Neves would cost less than that over the course of a contract, with actual resale value too.

Making one questionable transfer doesn't mean you just pay whatever for anyone else in the future, it's a crazy argument.

Also if we'd been offered Renato Sanches for free a year or two ago then most people would have said no based on how truly rancid he was for Swansea.

Difference being I don’t think it’s a bad deal. Risk yes, but all transfer are. We’re not in a position to sign high quality players who are more or less guaranteed to succeed. They are out of our price range or wouldn’t come.

So we have to settle for the next best thing. Alternatively it’s complete gambles on unproven players or averageness like AMN who will be half the price and fit everyweek but means we are paying money to stand still.

I feel like as an option in CM to come on for Moutinho he’s a better bet than no-one at all. He played well a couple of times in preseason in an attacking CM role didn’t he?

I wouldn't be against the deal at all if it happens (we're all guessing why it isn't going through, if he weren't on offer at all then there wouldn't even be a discussion to be had, so clearly there's some kind of wrangling).

As I say though, judging Deal X against Deal Y is false equivalence, unless it's something like Arsenal selling Martinez for less than they paid for Ramsdale a year later, which is evidently wank and a direct comparison.

That’s not really a reasonable argument at all is it? You can believe the manager has the team playing well enough to finish in the 8th to 12th area and still be dissatisfied with the lack of backing from the board. They aren’t mutually exclusive thoughts so your point is a bit of a straw man don’t ya think?

Because not many clubs or players want to do deals earlier. They'd just be restricting their price/options.

I accept that but the bulk of your post was referencing the fact that people had said they think the way we were playing we can finish top half. I think it’s truly unreasonable to use that against them saying the club have fucked up the transfer window. It’s a pretty cheap and shallow argument whichever way you want to dress it up…
