Summer 2021 transfer window

Now who is moving goalposts? This debate started because posters were already talking about not signing WJ as he isn’t up to scratch and I piped up with my 10p to ask how the hell we know that in such a short time.
Show me where I've said we shouldn't sign him, I've moved no goalposts

The thing is though, has he shown enough to be a competent back up to Raul? Hes looked ok, but hardly been brilliant in his games so far. Still time to prove himself but it's not a definite yes. If he proves himself not up to it then we havent found that back up have we?
He’s played 4 games, the first one about an hour after he stepped off the plane. It’s far too early to make that call.

Obviously if he does nothing for the next 15 games then we haven’t found that back up.

Absolutely. It's too early to write him off (I havent) but it's still too early also to say sign him as it's only £22m and we've found it difficult to find a Raul backup as others have suggested

That’s exactly what I said.

I haven't said you haven't said that. My point wasnt aimed at you!

The things I've disagreed with you about are Gibbs-White not having enough chances when you think he has.

And you saying Everton, Saints and Villa have back up for their striker and me saying they haven't.

I don't know what this obsession with £22m is... when anyone mentions the £35m for Fabio or £27m for Semedo the answer is 'well it isn't your money!', but suddenly it matters with Jose? :D
I've personally never said that, of course money matters, I've written articles on football finance!

The difference is if Fabio Silva doesn't work out we will get some of that money back. Sign Willian José for £22m, he doesn't do anything for 18 months, how much are you getting back for someone who's nearly 32 and failed?

I am with Cyber on this mostly. I wouldn't be interested in signing WJ, but only because a fit Raul, WJ and Silva isnt really a wealth of flexibility in terms of different options of styles. If given the choice I would rather we used that money on someone else as an attacking option that offers some pace.

Still interested in paying £22m for Willian José?

Less mobile than Nathan Blake and we got rid of him 17 years ago.

If things don't get better the question might not be should we sign the three loan players, rather will they want to sign!

I still would and don't agree with your assessment. He's being killed by Nuno at the moment. Even Haland would look shit under the current tactics.

Nuno isn't making him do a Dave Edwards tribute act of hiding behind defenders then looking fake annoyed that he didn't get the pass. Bit of a coward of a footballer from what I can see.

He's about as quick as Captain Tom too.

I honestly don’t think it matters who we do or don’t sign. Better players help but I’ve said it for months. Our issues are deeper than personnel and that’s why the “injury’s” excuse (on a factual and visual basis) doesn’t wash.

Don't agree with any of that DW.

First thing he did tonight was chest the ball down for Neves who played the ball forward higher up the pitch.

The rest of the time he spent chasing lost causes as we skipped into a back 7.

I'm gunna get pelters for this but if RAN isn't getting signed, I wouldn't be against bringing Vinagre back. We're only talking about back up for Jonny anyway, plus I thought when he came in for Jonny end of last season he did ok, think he improved his defensive work quite a lot, obviously needed more work offensively. It would save loads of money and quite frankly from what I've seen of RAN so far, he's not much, if any of an upgrade.

To be honest, I wouldn't have any issue with that. Whether Vinny would be quite so receptive is another matter.

I wonder if he fails the 'no dickheads' policy as he's not settled anywhere yet.

I think we've signed players who do well with possession but forgot about how we get and retain possession

Vinagre? That is desperate in the extreme. That said RAN looked amazing against PSG, but has been a mixture of zoom up left wing, cross halfway line, hit invisible brick wall, pass back and getting the wrong side in defence for us.
