Summer 2021 transfer window

Vinagre? That is desperate in the extreme. That said RAN looked amazing against PSG, but has been a mixture of zoom up left wing, cross halfway line, hit invisible brick wall, pass back and getting the wrong side in defence for us.
I could live with that, but on top he looks clumsy and lacking in confidence on the ball, miss controls the ball sometimes and gives possession way too often for my liking. As for defending, he looks nervous about getting involved in the physical side of it to me. Now Jonny is back there's time to improve him in that of course but to me atm he doesn't look much of an upgrade for the money he will cost.

If we are going to go 4-2-3-1 in future we have to address the #10 position effectively. It's a small sample size but I'm not convinced by Podence there atm - I'm happy to be corrected but as far as I'm aware he's a career winger? So it might be a case of square peg/round hole.

His passing is frequently quite sloppy and I'm not sure he wouldn't be better off playing wide right - his major skills being pace and dribbling, after all.

Re MGW I think it's fair to say his best performances have come as a #10. But first and foremost aside from anything else he has to convince Nuno to play him there, which for whatever reason is not happening, even with our recent struggles when we've been trying all kinds of hamfisted ideas.

It would seem either he's not performing in training, or Nuno doesn't think he's up to it - or is being a stubborn ass and trying to shoehorn him into another position.

Not seen any sign of Shabani being ready so that may or may not be an option.

At the moment I'd say we probably need a CB, CM (8 or 6, on the assumption Neves is the other CM and depending on how we want him to play) and a CAM/10. Plus some depth to cover across the front line.

There are a lot of caveats though - Vitinha might be the CM. Otasowie might be (again, sample size nowhere near big enough). But the #10 is key.

It's an easy comparison but look at the difference Bruno has made to Man Utd. Hard to replicate sure but (for once) they invested heavily and well in a key position for them. Or someone like Maddison - Leicester managed without him as they have a strong squad but they look a different team when he's on song.

If we're committing to this then that position is crucial, and I really don't want us half-assing it.

If Silva was a £35m favour to mendes then we should be due some quality this summer!

Dear me. He is EIGHTEEN
Robbie Keane was the same age, and the difference is, in his first game you could see he had that something. Silva in my opinion as shown at the moment he is very average. I really hope that he improves.

Development isn't linear (hence why the Foden and Gibbs-White comparisons don't really work either). Keane was a very different type of player from what I know of him at that age, in a very different era too.

Physically he still has plenty of developing too. He got chucked in the deep end this season, far from ideal, but in the long run it does benefit him. His decision making will improve, as he gets stronger he will hold the ball up better. The foundations are more than there though.

Regardless of age, he just doesn’t look very good, IMO/IMV.
He isn’t supposed to be developing in the glare of the first team headlights is he? Circumstances have led to that. We have to give him time.

It doesn't matter what era it was, you either have have or you don't.

There are players that have appeared not to be good enough when they are young only to turn into world beaters not long (or a few years) later.

DCL is good example this season, and Harry Kane another longer term.

Yeah Kane had multiple loans that didn't all go to plan, at 18 he was playing in league one (did OK). You wouldn't have said at that point he was going to be worth anywhere near £35m. He was a late developer too. As I say, there isn't one path.

Kane's history, he didn't start firing until 21/22

We need a plan that benefits Wolves until Fabio starts firing then, clearly
