Summer 2021 transfer window

8 full games and it’s not fair to judge him yet it’s ok to judge WJ after 4. Ok noted!

I have no issues with MGW getting a run as a 10. I just haven’t seen anything to suggest he has enough about him to do it .
It's the equivalent of 8 full games, he didn't get 8 full games! I also havent written WJ off. My only point on him was that he hasnt been signed as a Raul back up, he is on loan as first choice.

I don't think anyone is backing MGW and writing off WJ are they. I think it's fair to say i'm not sure about MGW, but i can also see there might be mitigating circumstances. He's not got a run in a position where i think he would be most suited, mainly because we didn't have that position and he's quite often been played/come on in a wide position for us which just isn't his bag. However in most of those appearances there are things in there that i don't like and those make me think he won't ever be good enough, it's the tricks and flicks ( love skills but i think he just does them at all the wrong times) etc and i think he just flatter to deceive. He's still got time to come good though and personally wouldn't mind his getting a run of games in an advanced midfield position so we can properly make a judgement but it looks like we're going back to a 3cb formation without Boly.

In terms of WJ, i don't think anyone is writing him off. DW is just saying that at his age and what he has offered so far along with already having Raul (as long as he comes back as good) and Fabio then paying over £20 million for a 30 year old who won't play very often and has no resale value doesn't seem the best strategy. Everything doesn't have to be black and white, just because you view something one way doesn't mean you can't see the other side. As it is WJ was a good signing to get, he's more than contributed so far even just with winning the penalty against Arsenal which has definitely boosted confidence but at the end of the season Raul and Fabio have to come first and if WJ isn't going to get games next season then it's £20 million that can go towards a centre back or a player that can do multiple forward roles.

Yeah, I'm just saying I don't want us to sign someone because he nearly scored a couple of times.

I'm not even saying he's looked rubbish, he hasn't. Equally given that there's no long term value in him and the price (which we already know), I don't think it's an option worth taking up. Unless something dramatic changes, which I think is less than likely. It's not a very Wolves signing.

We had to do something, we did, it is helping us out but it's like if tiles starting falling off my roof. I could do with a cherry picker to get up there and sort it the fuck out before the whole thing collapses. However I wouldn't then spend £40k to have one sitting on my drive forever just in case.
Well this poster seems to have written him off quite succinctly but that doesn’t count.
Best you retract your usual snippy barb TT. 😂😂😂

Let’s hope the Eden Hazard playerlike MGW gets a run and the Paul Mcloughlin like centre forward scores a few then.

DW doesnt need me to talk for him, but he literally says that he isnt saying hes rubbish, and that he hasnt been rubbish. Just he wouldnt spend the money there when we have Fabio and a fit Raul. That's not writing him off, just saying he wouldnt take up the option on him.

And hasn't made a comment on MGW. You build so many straw men you should change your username to The Crowman

And here come the usual insults at my expense. I even have snowflake as my description.
Let’s face it. I just don’t agree with a lot of what some of the highly respected high posting members write on here or the conclusions they come to.
DW and Jinky had this discussion earlier in the thread. It’s already been covered and I am in Jinkys camp.
The straw man bollocks is tedious and inaccurate but if it backs your opinion

oh but I have a victim complex. 😂😂

Mate, argue against anything I've said all you like, I'm fine with backing it up.

Don't make stuff up that I never even came close to saying.

I think you're very much overrating how he's looked so far. He looks serviceable at best. He doesn't attack crosses properly (how many have we put in over the Palace/Arsenal/Leicester games, how many has he even challenged for), he is if we're being generous at the very ceiling of his ability (he isn't going to improve much from here given he's 30 this year), he is very expensive for what he looks like so far - would you really pay £22m for that? Knowing that you are more or less guaranteed to get next to nothing back for him as and when he leaves.

It is difficult to sign a back up striker. You end up with players who aren't good enough. Hence I've not even been asking for us to be signing one. He's much more likely to be our Vincent Janssen than actually worth the money.

It's fine as a short term loan signing because of the bind we found ourselves in. But I wouldn't take it any further than that.
I disagree. I think he should be given the chance to be Raul back up this season and if he does a decent job sign him as Raul competition for the next two years. For me he has similar attributes to Raul although not as good. But far better than Bonatini or Cutrone or Fabio Silva who is completely un-Raul like in pretty much every aspect of his game. However, for me 4 games is not enough to judge . Your later posts appear to be suggesting he is a stop gap only. I hope that he will be a lot more than that and it would allow us to keep the style if we have two similar players to lead the attack.
Your second point was to highlight you did not understand the stick MGW gets given his cameo appearances. I again disagree. MGW has had lots of brief opportunities but has not taken them. Given his position it is exactly the position that a cameo should be able to come on and make the difference. He has not been played wholly out of position either. Foden Hudson Odoi Smith Rowe Sancho have all made significant impacts in games whether as substitute or starting. I think he has had enough minutes to prove his worth but would not be averse to him getting a run as a starting 10.
Off to build more scarecrows

I'd say Wolves have to come first.
The answer doesn't have to necessarily be WJ, but I wouldn't be happy going into next season with just Raul and Fabio for that lone spot again.
I think that is where we potentially need to look for a Jota "type" player who can fulfil a role in the wider areas as well as through the middle if we have an injury again.

That's where I'm at. If we are talking ideal world it would be someone who could play alongside Raul in a 2 as well as replace him in a 1. Not sure that's WJ, but I'd rather he be signed than nobody.

I don't think I mentioned MGW at all other than to say some dickheads were having a go at him on Sunday when he came on after 88 minutes, which to me seems crazy.

You don't sign back up players other than keepers maybe. Why would you sign someone you don't want to play?

So you also disagree with DW.

Why didn’t you debate that then?

Sitting here quietly and remembering the time I wrote off Paul Gladon after 45 minutes of football.
