Summer 2020 Transfer Window (Extended Version)

It would be an utter crisis if we were left with having to field that 11 for the Prem though wouldn't it. Worrying about a plague wiping out the entire first team is a tad drastic, even for this thread

Try the same exercise with any other team in the top ten bar Sheffield who have a championship squad in reality.

It's why we get twitchy

Try the same exercise with any other team

Why? utterly pointless
I can see why people are getting twitchy about our squad numbers but getting twitchy about a whole first team squad being struck down at the same time (and during a time a transfer window still has over a month to go) is ridiculous

Here we go

I await the usual bashing.
I'm not going to bash you, but as much as some people on the positive side have weakened the argument with hyperbole - naming 21 first team players in a disingenuous manner being my favourite. You are doing the same for the other side.

Cyber, bless you for having the balls to throw that stuff out on here, but the 'concerned' side of the equation has more nuance than this, you're just opening yourself up to pelters mate

39 followers. I'd chalk it down as piecing together what is already out there

Urgh I do hope we're not gonna fanny around with Zinchenko again

From that, if any truth in it and probably none, he is Plan C.

Dalot or AMN and Ghoulam the main targets. Get ready for Twitter Plane watching on Saturday when Ghoulam is meant to be flying to the UK

Destroying the kids dreams in just 2 posts. It's a harsh world

Hey I'm a Twitter lurker rather than a significant poster and I only have 3 followers, one is my daughter and another Dan so chalk both of those down to sympathy, so I'm not in a position to wave my willy around on that one[emoji3]

Seems to be a lot of talk of Bellerin leaving Arsenal tonight, guess that would kill any AMN transfer.

I think most already considered it dead, but yes looks like he's off to PSG

It’s quite hard not to feel a bit despondent atm. Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea, Everton and Leicester have all strengthened so far and we’ve not only stood still but actively sold one of our first 11. Maybe things will look better by the end of the transfer window but as it stands we’re drifting further away from that top 6 that we were within touching distance of last season.

And it’s completely reasonable to post this, but you’ll be told to “wait until the end of the window” and that “none of us know what’s going on behind closed doors”.

Repeat, rinse etc.

I think that’s an eminently sensible post, Carrot. As Jinky says, it’s very easy to use those two standard arguments to dismiss what you’ve said, but clearly we’ve fallen behind other clubs in the window. The biggest worry for me is that the club doesn’t seem to have a plan, whether it is A, B or C. We’re reactive, not pro-active.
Nuno has always spoken of his desire to go back home to his roots and I worry that he’s been home, seen his family, walked on the beach and had some serious thoughts about the future. If you haven’t used lockdown and the crisis to do that there’s something wrong with you, and I certainly don’t put Nuno in that category.

I'm not at all convinced that Spurs summer signings have strengthened them very much. Everton seem to have a knack of spending without improving. Provided Nuno (and team stay), even the current squad will be competitive with the likes of Spurs, Arsenal, Everton and Leicester.

Sure we need to improve the squad to compete with Chelsea. Liverpool and the two Manchester teams. The big question here is can anybody compete with their spending power? - not just transfer fees, wages too.

I really want us to improve the squad too but the higher up the league you go, the more difficult and more expensive that becomes.

I'll only start feeling despondent if either Nuno and his team leave or we sell three of Neves, Jiménez, Traore, Coady, Jonny, Jota, Podence, Neto, Boly, Dendocker.
