Relegation run in 22/23 ** Now a Wolves free zone**

Allardyce: £500k for 4 games and a £3m bonus if they stay up apparently

Hope when our safety is officially confirmed the clubs response is done in the manner it should be.

It's nothing to celebrate as we shouldn't have been in a relegation battle for most of the season. We got there due to shocking decisions from the top for at least the last 18 months...probably longer. So no patting themselves on the back, OTT social media offerings but just a thank you to Lopetegui and the players for securing our spot in the PL , thanks to the fans (not Twitter ones) for sticking with them and maybe a hands up the club got things wrong and will work with Lopetegui to make sure we are not looking over our shoulders and seeing the Championship getting closer again.

Doesn't even need acknowledging. With what we have done since 2017 and the progress of the club, being a Premier League team is the default and dropping below that level (or threatening to do so) means there's been a massive failure somewhere.

Hopefully him and his staff get a nice bonus for keeping us up.

I wonder what tonight's clean sheet meal is?

I get the reasoning here but I do think it sells the difficulty of staying in the Prem a little bit short. Only takes a small slip to tumble out of the league for a long while.

Don't disagree that staying up should be bare minimum.

Of course.

But the club don't need to say anything at all. It's not 2010.

Don't want a parade but I do think the players and Lop deserve a little bit of celebration. The change in the team since he arrived (Brighton notwithstanding) is really some achievement, IMO.

I think (hope?) that the club know another season like this one is well below what's expected.

I think they will as they changed the set up of the club to get Lopetegui and he alone deserves some public praise. Appointing Lopetegui was the very start of correcting some shocking decisions off the pitch.

Unrelated note; On the pitch v Everton at FT anyone?...

There you go, statement written.
The finest of British cynicism. ;)

Shi's not the one with credit here, all should go to the playing/coaching staff (and, you know, maybe the tea lady who helps pair drinks with Hwang's cookies).

Once established for four or more years I think it takes more than a small slip. It is often due to dreadful succession planning and the belief players that have performed well will continue to do so. In our case we flirted with relegation because we employed an idiot and didn’t replace Raul’s goals and Boly went into a spiralling decline. Look at the teams below us that could be considered established. Everton have spent incredibly badly, Leicester never replaced Vardy, West Ham have seen Antonio decline rapidly but not unexpectedly given his age. Saints lost Ings goals and a number of established players haven’t performed Those aren’t small slips, they’re glaring errors. Obviously the bigger the budget the more chance of getting away with it but Everton prove beyond doubt it’s not just money that can be an issue.

I guess any established team can struggle with bad luck and injuries but a decent manager and competent recruitment should see a team stay clear of recently promoted teams.

As an apology we are only increasing season tickets by £50 instead of £100.

And the kitchen staff who make fantastic meals, best meals ever according to the Portuguese Saunders

I think Lopetegui probably deserves a little nod from the management at the club but he won’t want it. What’s important now is us not resting on our laurels in the summer: we’ve got a platform to kick on with now and we can’t make the same mistakes we did before.

Yeah that’s the reality innit. Whatever the club do or don’t say in response to survival pales in importance next to Ws and Ls of the season to come.

It’s just about actually improving the squad now and addressing the weaknesses, January was probably our best window since the initial one when we got promoted. We can’t be skipping out on improving the team in the hope players keep performing - albeit Raul’s injury was freak, as was the pandemic, but still.

I think social media team will probably celebrate the job he's done since he came in, not specifically the relegation survival.
