Refereeing question

They should be sent off.

Then why aren't they?

I don't let my kids watch premiership football live now, because of Rooney and the rest very clearly telling the refereeing to fuck off after every decision.

I do not know why referees do not send players off for foul, abusive or/and offensive language. The law is there which dictates the action that should be taken, but unfortunately too few officials take the necessary action. I assessed a young referee the other week, and he was subjected to a tirade of abuse, yet only cautioned two players. When I challenged him on this he said that had he sent them off then the clubs would have marked him down thus reducing his chances of gaining promotion. And therein lies the problem, the higher a referee goes, the more he is expected to accept abuse. Which is of course totally wrong.

So reffing as per the rules is frowned upon? Got to feel for the young refs if they are faced with that.

The big problem I usually witness on Sunday mornings is that teams tend to score a referee well when they win and poorly when they lose, the actual performance of the referee generally has nothing to do with the score they get.

Frank, what would you do if a player high-fived you whilst walking past as you were stood indicating an indirect freekick?

Vertonghen flagged offside when five yards inside his own half!

I saw it a few times where the manager would give the referee a score just high enough so they didn't have to give any additional comments on the match sheet. I think anything below 50/100 they had to write additional comments, so they'd give 51/100 just to be tossers.

Still get that all the time too, though I think the mark is higher than 50 so you're getting shocking referees marked at 60 or 70+ just because managers can't be arsed to write a short report on what they did wrong. If you're going to complain about the refs then at least make the effort to utilise the feedback system properly and let the higher ups know how you feel.

Intimation that he got confused as there was only one Sunderland player further back due to Pantillimon having gone up for the corner.

However, the Ref is only 3 or 4 yrds away and should have overruled

They should both be dropped for that. Terrible mistake.

An elementary mistake. I cannot understand how the assistant got it so wrong. But as Parkin said, perhaps the goalkeeper going up for the corner did cause confusion in his mind.

I think Mr Hackett may have a point. Referee standards are clearly declining.

The linesman was just trying to be clever and score points with his assessor rather than concentrate and do his job properly.

That's a fucking disgraceful decision, first from the linesman and equally as bad from the ref who was close enough to intercept the pass.

Notts County had a player sent off in he closing minutes of their 0-0 with Doncaster whilst he was being subbed. He was already on a yellow card and then received a 2nd for time wasting as he walked off too slowly. Never seen that happen before but fair play to the ref for calling it. Far to many time wasting offences are let go.

Were they allowed to bring the sub on?
