Refereeing question

Regarding the tackle in the Wigan game. I fully expect Mr Halsey to say that he did not have see the tackle due to being unsighted, and the F.A will today charge the Wigan player. Regarding the assistant, do we know if he had a clear view of the tackle? If he did, then he should have ensured the player was sent off.

In the Norwich game, while the sending off was very harsh, at full spped it is quite easy to see why the referee gave the foul. And having penalised the goalkeeper for handball, the referee had no option but to send him off. I expect Norwich might appeal.

Regarding the handball by the Sunderland player, well we need to understand what the assistant referee is expected to do. He flagged for handball, but unlike the Sunderland penalty, he was not sure if it was inside the penalty area, so he signalled for a free kick. The onus is then on the referee, did he see whether the player was inside the area, if not, then he had no choice but to award a free kick on the edge of the area. Officials cannot guess at decisions, and to me it was obvious that neither referee or assistant could be sure of whether the player was inside or outside the penalty area.

What do you reckon!

Then it would appear that the assistant had a clear view of the Newcastle player, but would he have seen the actual tackle? i am not defending the assistant, I am just trying to place myself in his shoes.

From that position there's no way he couldn't have seen it. McManaman comes flying in from the right of that screen and he'd have seen the full impact. Unless he was looking the other way or something.

Away from the Premier League, Edgar Davids got sent off at the weekend for Barnet but they're thinking of appealing it on the grounds of mistaken identity. Is that even possible when it's one of the world's best players over the last 20 years playing in League Two?!

The assistant would have seen the Wigan player flying in, but would he have seen the point of contact. The Newcastle player may have been obstructing his view.

Regarding Edgar Davids, I agree. Unless Barnet have a player who looks very similar to him, and wears spectacles on the pitch !!

You can't seriously be trying to defend the assistant?

No I am not defending him.

No charge for McManaman. What the fuck?!

The FA says it cannot take "retrospective action" as one of the officials saw the incident take place.

Then the official should be banned for at least 10 games.

A question for Frankie, why was Thatcher given a further ban after receiving a yellow, but McManaman isn't allowed a ban?

Because the FA are desperately trying to wriggle out of a corner. TBH, Halsey and his assistants should be stood down immediately and for at least the rest of the season. If they saw the challenge and didn't even recognise it was a foul then they are quite simply incompetent.

That's disgusting. I'd be interested to know if it was Halsey or his assistant. Halsey does have form for it after all.

They come as a team. Stand them all down. Not refereeing at a lower level, but effectively suspend them.
