Refereeing question

Another bottle job from Halsey today. McManaman goes in high and late on Haidara who has to be stretchered off. Clear red card, yet Halsey doesn't even give a free kick.

It was a dreadful tackle. Cannot see how Halsey has deemed that a fair challenge

Disgraceful tackle.

To be fair to Halsey, he did have Sissoko I think it was in front of him at the time of the challenge, so he wasn't to know it was a foul, albeit a disgraceful one for which McManaman should be handed a ban by the FA.

At half time, they showed that Halsey's view of the incident was blocked right at the crucial time - if so, fair enough - he can't act on what he hasn't seen, and I'm sure McManaman will receive just punishment after the game.

One of the worst 'tackles' I've seen in years.

Reminded me of Keane on Haaland. Awful. Hope Haidara isn't too badly injured.

Yes, I thought that when I saw it. Apparently, he's on the way back up north with knee AND thigh injuries. Doesn't sound good.

Hadn't seen it yet, awful challenge. Will surely get a ban?

Holy shit that's a bad one.

I hope Halsey reports that he didn't see it else I don't think it will get punished will it?

He MUST have missed it. Not even Halsey - the worst ref in the league - is that blind. Fair enough if he couldn't see it, and the replays do suggest his view was blocked.

There was also the blatant handball for the winner that was right in front of the linesman. Alan Pardew has every right to be livid this evening.

A shocking tackle, which could easily have caused serious injury. The FA must take action, remember Milijas was sent off for a good clean tackle, yet something like this goes unpunished.

If he was blocked then fair enough, he needs to make that clear in his report so that the FA can take action. They can't if he's deemed to have seen it and taken action as he saw fit. If he did see it and did nothing, well words fail me. Even for Halsey. As poor a challenge as you'll ever see.

He surely cannot have seen it - if he did and did nothing then he should not be put in charge of another game.

I can see why he did that even if it was a debatable call. He came out with his arms in the air, it's understandable why the ref thought he'd handled it (it DID hit the underside of his arm anyway) and once he'd blown up it's an automatic red card.

Norwich definitely got the bad end of the decisions though, the red card, on another day Bassong's handball wouldn't have been punished, and Rose handled inside the box and the ref only gave a freekick.

I think we have to assume that Halsey's view was blocked. I fully expect his report to be along the line of "had I seen it, that would have been a straight red". Gets him out of the awkward spot and the right result is reached. If he claims he saw it and deemed it not even a free kick then he needs to be relieved of his duties immediately.

I think the keeper was trying not to handle the ball. I think it bounced off his body and then hit his arm. In my opinion it was never a sending off. I agree that Norwich should have had a pen.

He was definitely unlucky, it's just I can see the ref's thought process there.

I'm going to give Halsey the benefit of the doubt, but there is no excuse for the assistant.

Wasn't he on the other side of the pitch? Therefore it's possible it was either too far away or his view was also impeded.

That linesman had absolutely no excuse for missing that handball though.
