Reading (H) Build Up

We do not have a viable alternative and playing a LWB on the wrong side is not an answer.

I dont see why not, Im sure he can cross a ball with his weaker foot better then Doherty can with his stronger foot.

Ask yourself how often you see left footed left backs playing at right back.

If we are playing Jota / Cav / Costa as the front 3, the crossing isn't an issue as we don't do that. The wing back just has to find a pass. If Leo is up top, we do cross it more (and Doc gets 2 every 15 in a dangerous area)

Rubes won't play and it will be Doc. He should be better this weekend and he will spend most of his time in the other half of the pitch.

Well if and when we go up then Doherty wont be an issue next season.

Doherty will be worth £18M when we go up

[/Alan]

But he will prob be worth a bit, played so many games over last few seasons, chipped in with a few G/A and won the POTS award.

I don't think we'd get takers. How many Championship teams play 3-4-3 AND will be so dominant that they can ask their wingbacks to do basically no defending in 80% of the games?

He can't play at full back, he was consistently one of the worst players in the entire division at either RB or LB for three full seasons. We'll be stuck with him and he won't play very much.

Non of that matters. You know how lazy clubs can be.

If I told you last July we would sell Edwards to another Championship club and get £1m for him you would have thrown a pint of Magners at me and had me carted off as my mind was clearly lost. (Same if told you we would get £3m for Bod)

He's one of those players that I imagine other clubs would think was quite good though (a bit like Dave Edwards). They'll see Player of the Season 2016, the fact that he's first choice for the best team in the division and a few Hollywood goals and offer more than he is worth.

Sky did us a good propaganda job for us on Dave. Consistently said in every game that they showed of ours that he was the best in the league at arriving late into the box.

Clubs are stupid but they do generally have a look at whether defenders can defend.

We didn't for years...

Doc was all over the Sky Posters for the Championship this season. If we said he was available 4 or 5 Championship clubs would be in for him.

Not at £4-5m they wouldn't. Most still play a back four. They can all see through him playing there, these are the same managers who used to actively target him every single week as a massive weak link.

Any less than that and we'd think bugger it, we won't bother selling, he's not on silly money, probably won't act the twat, seems popular enough in the squad (even as a bit of a figure of fun), home grown as far as the FA's rules go and could theoretically play either side.

If we put him up for sale it will be a £2-£3m price tag.

If Villa stayed down and had money he is the exact type of player Bruce would sign. No need for scouting...played lost of games etc

They're losing Hutton on a free if they stay down as well. And they're bizarrely playing him at left back despite having a left back in the squad. Could be ideal.

Suspect we'll return to the fluid front three, which is my favourite anyway. Leo makes a decent plan B if things aren't going to plan.

I'd also change the keeper as I've been questioning Ruddy for a while as Norris will be a better keeper, but he didn't actually do anything horrific at the weekend so he'll keep his spot.
The back 3 and wing backs are interesting as we've been a bit sloppy recently. Coady up against anyone physical concerns me. I'm not sure who else could play that role though. Reading shouldn't pose that kind of threat anyway. Doc is meh but we have no other options. I'd like to see Vinagre too but again I've thought that for a while and don't expect it to change now.

Really interesting to see how things change for this game as Nuno has to face the fact that we've been outplayed or outfought recently, and he's made some questionable decisions.

Thoughts on this match being postponed? Seeing as the weather forecast is as reliable as Rosie the dog's tax returns.

If nothing were to change between right now and Saturday - so we get a few snow flurries here and there and it remains bloody cold - then it'd be absolutely fine. But if we get battered tonight and tomorrow, as we might, then all bets are off.

Gary Madine went for £6M. I could easily see somebody throwing £4-5M at Doherty.

Snows coming down heavier here in the last hour and forecast quite a bit overnight and tomorrow. Getting a little concerned about train to New St on Saturday morning to get over. Lift home is sorted though

A lot will depend on when it stops. Forecast for Wolves has early hours on Saturday, if it stops then, that is sufficient time to get the stadium safe. Carries on until Sat PM, then it will be off
