Reading (H) Build Up

Vinagre does seem to be comfortable with both feet and can at least cross the football

Controversial opinion time - I think Cavaliero would make a good RWB, he'd need to work on his defensive positioning though and ignoring the fact he's our most potent attacker

Ruddy
Bennett Coady Boly
Cavaleiro Douglas
Ndiaye Saiss
Costa Leo Jota

Played there (kind of) v Sunderland didn't he?

Cav at RWB? Total waste of our best current forward player.

Does anyone think the game will be in doubt? It looks like it's not going to get above 0 before the game and there is snow forecast

Does us being on sky mean the game is more likely to go ahead?

I know he is. But would we have a stronger team with cav at RWB rather than doc?

If the conditions outside of the ground are deemed dangerous it doesn't matter if Sky are showing it or not. They have had plenty games called off.

Not a lot of snow due Saturday, so the club should be able to sort out clearing the routes to the stadium and the steps inside.

No because we would lose his attacking threat.

Cav overlapping Costa seems pretty potent to me.

He wouldn't be front and centre of our attack granted but I think he'd get more space to run at defenders with.

It may even open up some room for Costa as Cav is way more dangerous than Doc

I just don't understand why you would want to mess with our most attacking threat.

Bully scored a shit load of goals as a striker, but he would probably have been a better central midfielder than Darren Ferguson, you wouldn't have played him there though would you?

If you were going to shoehorn anyone at RWB then it'd have to be Vinagre.

If we were going to drop Doherty it'd be either Bennett at RWB or Douglas at RWB and Vini at LWB.

Neither of those will happen though. Barring injury/suspension Doherty will start every game up until the end of the season.

that's very true - the worst player in the team and the only position we have no cover/replacement for.

He hasn't been a disaster zone though. And we bought cover. And it was the only signing that hasn't worked through injury.

Just get through twelve games, get promoted (which we will) and then massively upgrade the position in the summer. It's hardly sackcloth and ashes.

I do wonder what our back up plan is though. We knew Phil was crocked in January so we must have a clue who will pop there should Doc get suspended or injured. If its Bennett we are removing the attacking threat.

We won’t find out unless Doherty gets injured or sent off but I’m intrigued also. I think Graham would be ok for home games where he wouldn’t have to defend much. Bennett would probably get the nod away from home. Either that or just stick Buur out there and see what happens.

If we'd signed Doherty for £3m or whatever last summer and he'd been first choice in that position all season then he'd have got a fair old amount of stick throughout the campaign. As it is, it's been a mildly pleasing surprise that someone who has been largely atrocious for his entire Wolves career has put in some half-decent performances along the way and has finally decided to act like a vaguely professional athlete. But let's not pretend he's been really good, because he hasn't.

He still isn't very good and he still can't defend at all (he was forced to try to on Saturday but he still didn't really do it, he repeatedly kept passing Sessegnon on to Bennett, no Matt, that is your fucking job).

We do not have a viable alternative and playing a LWB on the wrong side is not an answer.
