Reading (H) Build Up

I started to re-watch the Fulham game earlier and it's totally different watching it on the TV compared to in the ground. Also amazing how much you miss when you only get one viewing of it in person. I actually thought, up until the first goal going in, we were well in the game. Mitrovic probably played as well as I've ever see him play, but Boly dealt with him well whenever the two of them were up against each other - it's when they isolated Coady with him that we struggled. Teams are starting to stick a big man on Coady and he's struggled - so put Boly there instead and take that option out of the equation.

This may be re-inventing the wheel somewhat, and I know that it'll never happen in a million years anyway, but Boly is good with the ball at his feet and has proven many times this season he can power out of defence when required. He'd be fine playing the sweeper role that Coady plays, and although he may not be as suited to pinging the ball 30-40 yards like Coads, he's not exactly a clogger who's going to punt it in to row Z either. As I have long term reservations on whether Coady would be good enough to play in the PL, I'd be happy to see a back three of Miranda/Hause-Boly-Bennett.

This will never be the team in a million years, but I'd go with -

Jota----------Cav----------Costa
------N'Diaye------MGW--------
Douglas------------------Doherty
-------Hause--Boly--Bennett----
---------------Norris--------------

What we'll actually get is Jota in for Bonatini and then the same team that lost to Fulham.

Boly goes to sleep too often to play sweeper. Coady is forever shouting at him to pay attention.

I would go,

Cav - Afobe - Jota

Vinagre - Alf - Saiss - Doherty

Willy - Coady - Bennett

Ruddy

I have seen MGW twice in CM and he just doesnt have the defensive qualities to do it yet, I would like to see him coming on as sub either more advanced with a formation change or to replace one of the front 3.

Bonatini & Costa should be dropped no question in my mind, Saiss should be dropped but we don't have anyone else so he stays in.

It was obvious being at the game what Fulham's game plan was and it won them the game. We don't need to move Coady out from where he is but we need to be able to stop teams playing in to a big striker like Mitrovic whether that's by sticking someone closer to Coady or just being more organised to stop the initial ball. We've been getting little things wrong lately from Nuno down and hopefully they've been working on such things this week.

Costa was our worst player by a country mile against Fulham, I'm still pissed off at him. Felt like the worst performance from a player since that one from Hunt.

Anyway.

Ruddy
Bennett - Coady - Boly
Doherty - N'Diaye - Saiss - Douglas
Cavaleiro - Bonatini - Jota

Wouldn't be opposed to seeing Vinagre or Norris come in.

You would have had to miss about half of all our games from the past two seasons to think that, or 90% of Edwards' games for us in 2017.

Cav - Afobe - Jota
Douglas - MGW - Saiss - Doherty
Willy - Coady - Bennett
Ruddy

Dig Costa out for his performance but leave Bonatini in the side. Okay

A lot of people seem to be forgetting that Saiss loses a lot of his positive attributes when paired with someone who roams like Ndaiye, we've seen it happen last season with Edwards etc and this season with ndaiye.

Saiss went off injured as well for the Fulham game and bearing in mind his limitations when he doesn't have a partner who sits with him it has to be MGW and ndaiye on that basis for me

Could do Cav - Jota - Morgan if you like.

Not convinced Afobe is a better option than Leo at this point regardless of how bad Leo was last time (and Costa was worse, to be clear, IMO).

Your second sentence. I would expect that kind of nonsense from the worst posters on Wolvesrumours.

You can disagree all you like but I honestly felt like it was that bad. He was bloody awful.

I’m all for people having an opinion, but you’re just wrong if you think NOBODY has performed worse in a Wolves shirt since Stephen Hunt did up until Costa did last Saturday.

Have you heard of Andy Lonergan, Jake Cassidy, Kaspars Gorkks, Dave Edwards?

The Hunt performance is just what sprang to mind. He never controlled the ball straight out of play but with the number of weak ass challenges he gave up on he may as well have.

Alan that is a load of fucking bollocks mate. Just bucket loads of gonads.

Costa was wank on Saturday, completely fluffed the two great openings in the first 10 minutes and then spent the rest of the game looking like a kid in a PE lesson being forced to take part in a game he didn't like.

I'm not buying into Alan's hyperbolic statement, but Costa didn't want to be there on Saturday, he bottled 50/50's and didn't take his man on when he could have. As has been a feature of all the front 3 in the last couple of games he overplayed rather than taking responsibility. As I said yesterday whether that's because he is carrying a knock/lacking confidence/pissed off not being the star player/out of form or a combination of any of them I don't know, but this is a shadow of the Costa from a year ago and without that goodwill in the bank from last season he'd be getting pelters. In playing Costa you are putting Jota and Cav in positions they can play but aren't their best. No brainer for me to play Jota Leo Cav as the front 3.

This is such an enigma, Costa isn't near the unbelievable standards he set last year which is forgivable. But looking like you aren't interested is not - it won't be long before he starts getting pelters for looking like he can't be arsed.

Does he need dropping? Maybe, certainly I think starting with cav, Leo and Diogo is an option

Reading getting humped. We should smash them at the weekend. Panic stations if we fail to win!
