Palace 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Can’t see and AM be any use until we ditch the wolves horse shoe. 5 men holding hands on the half way line who then can only pass it wide as there is literally nothing in the middle. We’ve been doing this forever. We then upgrade it to the advanced horse shoe by bringing on Fabio Silva...

View attachment 3398Still 4 people holding hands on the half way line. Donck literally went to take the ball off Kilman when there was no one around him late in the game. Still nothing in the centre of the pitch. This is the same shite We were serving up at the start of last season and practically the same as the shite we served up against part timers last week.

The tactics from an attacking standpoint are no better in a 5 than they were 2 years ago. And we either don’t have the individuals or aren’t getting the most out the ones we have to get away with it by not scoring but still conceding
Where are those pictures from?

Illustrates the point really well, like Nuno doesn't believe in central attacks - everything is down the wings
You need to be able to shift and use both in the same game..#unpredictibility

Really like Nuno though and know he wants everybody to feel like a wolfpack and on the same page..

Emi Martinez, how many games he played for us?

Ward-prowse and Grealish would be nice

Rubbish today. Usual suspects letting us down. Too many misplaced passes, playing too deep, yawning gaps between midfield and attack, no link up play. All round awful. Dont understand why Nuno continues to show faith in players who are not performing? Why players like Otasowie and Vitinha have only been seen fleetingly, since that last PL win against Chelsea at home? All very frustrating. I'd drop Rui, Coady, Donk and, sadly, Moutinho for the Arsenal game. Things need freshening up big time. Oh and by the way where's Saiss?

When this happens at most clubs, especially in the PL, it's usually the beginning of the end, let's be realistic.

If the players aren't going to get direction, belief and confidence from the manager then where on earth are they going to get it from?

Most owners at elite clubs would look at this situation and be thinking 'there's a manager out there who could come in and mould this squad into a winning team' and the clock would be ticking.

I don't want Nuno to go at all, but he has to show some sign of being able to fix the multiple problems we have.
I agree with the premise, I just don't think we are "most clubs" in this situation. I don't think he's in trouble unless we become a loss away from the bottom 3 and even then we aren't a club that are going to go Pulis, Hughes etc so not sure who we'd get in anyway

I couldn’t see us sacking him, but then nor do I ever want us to. I just want him to sort this bloody mess out quicker than he is!

No chance he gets sacked, he'll be given the end of the season to fix this.

Our tactics have certainly changed from last season. Nuno even admitted that himself.

We are not the same team as last season finishing 7th and making the final stages of the EL.

We have become more passive, deeper, disjointed and gone from inverted wing backs and close forwards to split forwards and traditional wing backs.

Add to that our passive low block, lower passing tempo and outright poor form and we are s very different animal from last season.

This team is terrified of everything at the moment, it hampers everything they do, they don't commit to anything with any conviction because they're scared of it going wrong. Personally I think that stems from the safety first mentality of the boss. I'm sure we've all had those situations in life where you're unable to carry out your job properly and you'll have to cut a few corners to get something done to appease those asking, you'll also know the sort of oversights and errors that would most upset your superiors so they're the bits you make sure you get right and cut the corners elsewhere.

That's the way I see it playing out at Wolves at the moment, things aren't going right but players know Nuno's conservative preferences and so they're erring on the side of caution whenever they're a bit stumped, not sure if have time to take a touch or turn? Just get rid in the safest way possible. Worried the team will be exposed if that risky pass you can see gets cut out? Just turn round and go backwards to keep the ball. Worried you'll get caught out of position if you make a run into space and someone loses the ball? Just stay where you are to be safe, the bloke with the ball will do something else.

It's pathetic, they're all hiding. The manager doesn't appear to be giving any of them the belief or freedom to go out there and play their games, to take the risks you have to take if you want to try and worry an opponent to any extent. None of the players, bar maybe Neto and at times Traore, appear to be willing to put their heads above the parapet and go out on a limb to do it themselves either. You watch almost any other team in the league at the moment at they are playing with so much more freedom, defenders pushing up with the ball when opponents back off, players straying from their position to find spaces, team mates overlapping into the spaces vacated. It's a joke how far behind that level of fluidity Wolves look to be right now.

I am not in the Nuno out camp. He is the best manager for us. But I do think he has to rethink the spine of his team given the rotten run of form. It is no coincidence that our abysmal run has coincided with poor form from Rui, Coady, Dendonker and Moutinho coupled with the absence of Jiminez. You cannot keep doing the same things and expect different outcomes. We have been found out by the premier League and need to change things to change our fortunes and that means different players. Rui is conceding every other shot on target according to a stat on another thread and that just has to change. Ruddy has two clean sheets and an own goal in his three games. He probably is not the long term answer but he may be needed now. Especially if we go with a back four. He appears better . Neves and Otasowie just have to start against Arsenal too. They are exactly the sort of challenge we need right now.

Ruddy
Hoever Coady Boly Semedo

Neves Otasowie
Traore Vitanha Neto
Willian Jose.

That would be my 4231.

If you are sticking with 3 at the back then you could make an arguement for keeping Patricio , although he is distinctly off colour.

Rui
Hoever Boly Coady Kilman Semedo
Neves Otasowie

Podence WJ Neto

Dendonker and Moutinho both need a rest.
I would play Podence ahead of Vitinha but otherwise you’re about right. Something really needs to be done and the reliance on out of form players is costing us. Rui hasn’t been at the races for a while. Moutinho looks like his legs have gone. Donk is out of sorts. Coady is struggling at times. But don’t think this is new. The writing has been there all 2020. It was largely ignored unfortunately. Let’s hope we can do enough to stay up

I agree, I think the club will support him and I'm behind that. I don't think we can be blinded by exceptionalism though, I'm a Wolves fan before I'm a Nuno fan, ideally the latter sorts out the former, but there may well come a day that him being here is taking us backwards. It'll be a sad day and I hope it doesn't come, but it's not an impossible scenario

I’m not sure. We’ve always been deep, we’ve always been passive and now as you say we are disjointed.

I’d say the forwards been too wide has always been an issue in the PL. They all tend to stay out wide, it must be instruction. Which means we get the horseshoe passing map. Doc and Jonny dropping inside mitigated that slightly but it’s still always been a problem.
