Palace 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Players aren't not trying as I've seen repeated countless times they are being safe or hiding because they've lost self belief.

Nuno absolutely has to find that for himself first and then pass it on to the team. If that doesn't happen then we are in for another 4 months of scraping a point here or there with the odd narrow 1-0/2-1 thrown in

When this happens at most clubs, especially in the PL, it's usually the beginning of the end, let's be realistic.

If the players aren't going to get direction, belief and confidence from the manager then where on earth are they going to get it from?

Most owners at elite clubs would look at this situation and be thinking 'there's a manager out there who could come in and mould this squad into a winning team' and the clock would be ticking.

I don't want Nuno to go at all, but he has to show some sign of being able to fix the multiple problems we have.

I really hate to think about Nuno going, not least because being on that managerial carousel most clubs ride seems such a pointless exercise. I don't know what the answer is, but I don't think the man widely (and rightly) touted as the 'best manager we've ever had' has turned into Owen Coyle overnight.

The first half was competent enough despite being completely devoid of any threat. The second half...well, we scarcely looked like getting back into it after giving away another poor goal (Dendoncker and Patricio have to do much better there). At 1-0 down why are we not trying to get more bodies into the box, why is everything focused down the flanks when we hardly ever score from those opportunities, what is the midfield offering exactly, how did Dendoncker stay on for the full 90 minutes when he did nothing of any value in the whole game?

Semedo looked ok on the left, there were some nice glimpses from Willian (but we absolutely have to get more players around him so they can play off him), Boly played alright...there wasn't much else to shout about I'm afraid.

I still don't think relegation is a realistic prospect, we'd have to lose pretty much every game for the remainder of the season and the bottom three don't win anything like often enough to start pulling us into a serious scrap. But this is still poor, we shouldn't be playing in such a tepid fashion and we don't seem to be trying anything different, it's more of the same every week.

I'd love us to bring in an attacking midfielder by Monday but I just can't see it.

Coady blames the players. Got to agree with him here. We know the players we have can play! They finished 7th the last 2 seasons.

Me neither, but unfortunately it's not as simple as that, is it?

Managers get frazzled, the PL is tough and draining and after a while players can tire of the same voices.

I don't think we're at the stage where he's done all he can at Wolves, but even the best managers get to that stage at a club some time

Mate, can you really see a parallel universe article on the official site where he blames Nuno or the coaches??

There's shared responsibility for sure, but in the world of football, right or wrong, the buck stops with the manager

I blame the mindset

Just go out and wanna win not afraid to lose ffs

He hasn't. What he has had is the most unprecedented season ever. No fans, especially at Molineux is a killer for our team (don't know about any other team). Again, it's not just him. The players have to take the blame too. None of them are in a good place. It's blatently obvious to me. You can see it in their demeanour.

Agree the fans has killed us matbe more than other teams..we have the best fans in the PL imo..but when thats lacking you need to change and react

There is a shared responsibility i agree. In the football world the buck stops with the manager yes, but it doesn't mean he's all to blame, even if he takes the rap for it.

I'm sure he is trying, but it's a challenge, which he said in his interview. He knows the score. It needs everyone to step up.

Maybe not just step up..change mindset and tactics

Also, i would like our main stance when losing the ball and on the defending side we are much higher up the pitch

I am not in the Nuno out camp. He is the best manager for us. But I do think he has to rethink the spine of his team given the rotten run of form. It is no coincidence that our abysmal run has coincided with poor form from Rui, Coady, Dendonker and Moutinho coupled with the absence of Jiminez. You cannot keep doing the same things and expect different outcomes. We have been found out by the premier League and need to change things to change our fortunes and that means different players. Rui is conceding every other shot on target according to a stat on another thread and that just has to change. Ruddy has two clean sheets and an own goal in his three games. He probably is not the long term answer but he may be needed now. Especially if we go with a back four. He appears better . Neves and Otasowie just have to start against Arsenal too. They are exactly the sort of challenge we need right now.

Ruddy
Hoever Coady Boly Semedo

Neves Otasowie
Traore Vitanha Neto
Willian Jose.

That would be my 4231.

If you are sticking with 3 at the back then you could make an arguement for keeping Patricio , although he is distinctly off colour.

Rui
Hoever Boly Coady Kilman Semedo
Neves Otasowie

Podence WJ Neto

Dendonker and Moutinho both need a rest.

Wish we had Jack Grealish on our side..creates everything or about 85% for Villa

Can’t see and AM be any use until we ditch the wolves horse shoe. 5 men holding hands on the half way line who then can only pass it wide as there is literally nothing in the middle. We’ve been doing this forever. We then upgrade it to the advanced horse shoe by bringing on Fabio Silva...

E07ED52D-4F0F-40F8-B9C9-5F0CFDEC713E.jpegStill 4 people holding hands on the half way line. Donck literally went to take the ball off Kilman when there was no one around him late in the game. Still nothing in the centre of the pitch. This is the same shite We were serving up at the start of last season and practically the same as the shite we served up against part timers last week.

The tactics from an attacking standpoint are no better in a 5 than they were 2 years ago. And we either don’t have the individuals or aren’t getting the most out the ones we have to get away with it by not scoring but still conceding
