Wolves 0 Spurs 1 - Verdict Thread

No doubt about it, once a player is on a stretcher then any abuse of an opponent should end.
There was a whole history of of histrionics from Simons from when he originally went down off the field, moving himself back on it, going off with the medical team after a few minutes, walking to side of the pitch and then managing to get back on it for the second time to stop play even though he shouldn’t have been on the field.

The ridiculous thing with Simons was that you didn't need to be a Sports Scientist to know that the injury was significant immediately. Where some sympathy stops is with the necessity to get part of his body onto the pitch to stop the game and the physio/doctor going across, rather than round the pitch to treat him and stop the game continuing. The referee needs to be firmer here are either continue with the game, ensuring the player and staff don't enter the pitch or stop the game and clearly signal to fans that additional time is being added. He did neither and therefore added to the pantomime. Spurs should have also had a player ready to come on when it was immediately clear he couldn't continue.

No excusing the abuse our fans dished out though while he was on a stretcher and also just look at what some ten year olds are allowed to do by their parents throughout the game. I'm nearly 60 and still wouldn't shout/hand gesture some of the things they do anytime, but especially in front of my Dad!

I don't think his case is [Simons scenario] anything like the 'fake' injuries that are happening to [predominantly goalkeepers] every game now and are being used as a tactical time out. Sa was ahead of the game as much as anyone with these and his acting skills haven't improved. Sanchez took it to another level at Wembley though.

A stretcher can go straight across the pitch too to prevent any possibility of Saturdays events happening. If he’d gone off on the stretcher after the first break in play, he’d have probably* been applauded off from all 4 sides.

“In the second half, we were the better team, we were pushing, and it really hurts to concede in the manner that we did and lose the game.” (RE)

Then don't pick Doherty again.

So much better that we didn’t muster a shot on target until well into injury time.

Deluded. We were there you know.

I've listened to a couple of podcasts this week, the Judah and Spiers one and the Ryan Leister one and both picked up on the continual post match bullshit.

Apparently we had two on target? I can’t think of the other apart from along ball from Sa first half that went straight through to the keeper?

Spiers also offers up the full house of apologies for Rob. Turns out the manager doesn’t really matter at all, and if we have to change him in October, well, no bother. He has some wretched takes on football that guy.

I do get what he was saying which was it doesn’t matter who the manager is if we sign a crock of shit, but if the signings are good but he's shit we can sack him and still have a chance. His point was Jackson is more important than Edwards because if he fucks up we remain fucked.

Steve Froggatt is understandably in full support of Rob too saying what a great manager he is and fully deserves the chance to have a good next season with his own players

Yep and I get that. But it comes in the context that he’s previously (last week) given Edwards his actual, unqualified, vote of approval, with the “he deserves a chance” line. Now as the evidence in front of his eyes stacks up, it seems convenient to go down a different route.

He’s consistent though. He didn’t think getting rid of Nuno would be an issue. He doesn’t cite that example of what a change in manager can do.

I do find myself wondering what could have been done differently by RE, accepting how the squad is viewed. I struggle to see the line from “fuck these cowards” to “but how did the manager not do better with these cowards”.

I still think all decks should be cleared, coaching and playing, but if we’re trying to apportion blame then it starts to wobble for me that someone who has no tools or materials would be sacked over having built nothing.

So ready for this season to be over.
