Wolves 0 Spurs 1 - Verdict Thread

No doubt about it, once a player is on a stretcher then any abuse of an opponent should end.
There was a whole history of of histrionics from Simons from when he originally went down off the field, moving himself back on it, going off with the medical team after a few minutes, walking to side of the pitch and then managing to get back on it for the second time to stop play even though he shouldn’t have been on the field.

The ridiculous thing with Simons was that you didn't need to be a Sports Scientist to know that the injury was significant immediately. Where some sympathy stops is with the necessity to get part of his body onto the pitch to stop the game and the physio/doctor going across, rather than round the pitch to treat him and stop the game continuing. The referee needs to be firmer here are either continue with the game, ensuring the player and staff don't enter the pitch or stop the game and clearly signal to fans that additional time is being added. He did neither and therefore added to the pantomime. Spurs should have also had a player ready to come on when it was immediately clear he couldn't continue.

No excusing the abuse our fans dished out though while he was on a stretcher and also just look at what some ten year olds are allowed to do by their parents throughout the game. I'm nearly 60 and still wouldn't shout/hand gesture some of the things they do anytime, but especially in front of my Dad!

I don't think his case is [Simons scenario] anything like the 'fake' injuries that are happening to [predominantly goalkeepers] every game now and are being used as a tactical time out. Sa was ahead of the game as much as anyone with these and his acting skills haven't improved. Sanchez took it to another level at Wembley though.

A stretcher can go straight across the pitch too to prevent any possibility of Saturdays events happening. If he’d gone off on the stretcher after the first break in play, he’d have probably* been applauded off from all 4 sides.
