O'Neil Confirmed

I just picked a part of an article, I've no idea who the bloke goes for a pint with so I had no idea they were mates.
Yes, but it literally tells you they're mates before the quote you used to make a point. Like, you had to read it to get to your part.

Christ, this is hard work. I'll leave it here.

That's exactly what I think will happen.
I'm hoping they're in the sale process right now and we can get the new owners manager in before we get relegated.

The prices we're paying are disgusting and I have the same fear as @Lycan and I think if we get relegated with Fosun in charge it'll be Bhatti's 2.

Wasn't a dig at Nuno at all, just meant that this search for someone/thing more 'progessive' has been a shitshow, but I don't want to just devolve to some kind of British % ball either.

Nuno's style needed to evolve, but that was an attempt to consolidate, entertain and progress, not just stay up
If 'British % ball' is what keeps us up then I'm (grudgingly) right behind it tbh.

If Fosun keep up this approach of 0 investment and maximum profit after a relegation it won't be long before we're seeing players wages not being paid, points deductions and relegation after relegation.

We either need to see some sort of outside investment or Fosun to change their strategy which I can't see happening any time soon (does anyone here actually believe Jeff Shi's line about being more 'financially free' next summer?). Neither of those outcomes are going to occur anytime soon so in the meantime we just need to stay up.

I think our future depends entirely on Fosun's future performance in the chinese economy.
Their profits were down to a mere 50 mill last year (i read somewhere), and until that changes, love us or not, we just don't feature in any growth plans they have.

Personally I love Wolves more than I love watching football (if it's possible to separate the 2).

If anything has been made clear by this summer's shenanigans it's that our short term future is going to be fucking bleak. It's important that we cling to our Premier League status until something changes with our ownership situation, however long that takes. I do NOT want to see what happens to this club if we drop down to the Championship with Fosun at the helm.

I get that. My Dad is the exact same way but at nearly £50 quid a pop I want an enjoyable experience and I don't get that from negative hoofball so I'd just watch it from the comfort of my own home and save meself the 100 or so quid I spend every matchdsy.

Tbh at the prices they're currently charging I'm on the verge of not being able to justify it even if we were playing beautiful football and in Europe every season but that's a different issue altogether. The current prices are nothing less than a fucking scandal and I'm stunned that more of a fuss isn't being made about it.

Dunno, Brighton going to general sale tells you a lot I think. I know it’s holiday season and that but I don’t remember another first home game going to general sale? Could be wrong.
I know it’s a mix of factors but Helen had an email through today saying it’s to general sale and for the cheapest seats (the shit ones in the corner obvs) it would cost nearly £80 for her and her kids to go. Safe to say they’re not going.
I think people are starting to vote with their feet.

One thing that's not been mentioned about GON is he's not here to put a fire out...

He finds an integrated, almost balanced squad who's fall was arrested by JL last season...

It's a pretty good situation to walk in to.

He finds a team a team that went from 20th to 13th without playing especially well save for 3-4 games v. Liverpool, Brentford etc.

These guys are on an upward curve, have two new faces exactly where they’re needed in Fabio and Sasa, and should be pretty confident.

I really resented JL selling the team as bottom feeders.

I've no resentment for JL. he was lied to and didn't feel he could work for his paymaster.

He did save us from certain doom though, so let's all wipe our mouths and move on...

JL's beef was with the owners, not the club or it's fans.

I don't know why you believe this as he never said this at all.

He said it needed balancing which it does.

What he said is open to impression though isn't it. He said we need players to 'compete' that could mean to be competitive at all. It likely meant to challenge the top 6-8 but it was never explicit.

If you're looking at it purely from O'Neil's point of view it definitely isn't a 'good situation to walk into' but it's almost certainly better than any other job he could expect to take at this stage in his career.

No investment, the possibility (read near certainty) that more players will leave, a squad that's been training under a different system all pre-season, weaknesses in key positions, a complete clusterfuck behind the scenes, a disgruntled fanbase and a tough start in the league. He's got all that to contend with all while learning on the job how to be a manager. There's a reason why we've ended up with him and not somebody more proven, nobody else would take it.

The reason why he did take it is that it's a bigger club and a better quality of player than he has any reason to be working with right now. The potential upside is too high for him to turn down.

Erm... we definitely won't be troubling the top 8, that's not even part of the conversation!!

You seem very complacent about our chances of going down considering all the issues piling up, most of the media thinking we will and the fact we have Spud with a 9 month CV at the helm.

We all know what Lopetegui meant by being competitive.
