Norwich 0 - 2 Wolves: Something something bogey team...

I'm disappointed they amended your work, DW.

Surely the proof copy said 'larged chinned cunt knuckle' and they changed it to 'Glenn Hoddle'?

I'd sue.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice feature, nicely done. Credit to NCFC for taking an interest in the opposition, or did Dan approach them? Either way, that's the start of a published portfolio to canvass other clubs with if so inclined.

You watch don't you? Go for it

Just surprised, but thank you. Don't think anyone ever has ever asked me for my thoughts on players, performances, and how I would rate them. Ice hockey players yes on another Forum, but not football players. Always felt it's best to leave it to those that actually go b3h. I feel more in me zone on the chit chat threads :)

Nice one DW, that article looks top class! Good to see you getting some proper coverage of your work.

They came to me, got the message when we were just getting into Manchester last Tuesday.

Watched it on a Facebook feed, I love this now, means I get to watch every game.
Total control, with no doubt we were going to win. The biggest dissapointment was not sticking 6 or 7 past them.

Shite Finishing
Shite Decisions

Bonatini was good again, as he is in most games I see him, however over the last 2 games he should have scored at least 3. His finish was good, if slightly mis hit but picked his spot nicely.

As I said defensively we were superb, in midfield we were fantastic, as soon as we got to within 30 Yards of their goal it was like a different team.
Running up blind alleys, underhitting passes, poor finishing.

I love watching this team, it's a fantastic team to watch and we will win the division comfortably.

Last night I liked to see some of the fouls we gave away, it showed we were not going to be kicked up in the air, however Norwich were guilty of a couple of naughty tackles, one with a different ref could have got a red card, the feed was not the best in the world, however one tackle late on looked distinctly two footed.

A few thoughts and ratings from last night after finally catching up on sleep and work.

In a fairly niggly game with what seemed like a lot of fouls back and forth, in reality it was a straightforward performance for our boys last night. Norwich had spells of possession but never really had any sort of cutting edge. There best player was James Maddison who worked hard and tried to provide some quality but the rest of his teammates were not up for it.
They looked a little more threatening when Cameron Jerome came on and they switched to a 3-5-2 but it was too late by that point for them to get back into it as we had made our changes and were seeing the game out well.
Bonatini killed the game off with the second as up until that point you always felt that Norwich might grab a flukey goal from a set piece but Leo settled everyone down with a fantastic finish. We really must take our chances though. Alf should have scored at 1-0, Leo did well but could not quite get the right touch and both Jota & Bright had good chances to put the game to bed.
Players:

Ruddy – fantastic performance last night. Whilst he didn’t have much to do in terms of shot stopping he was very dominant at set pieces and came out to catch or punch the ball really well. The set piece looked like Norwich’s most threatening angle to score so the fact that Ruddy was so strong completely nullified their threat. 8

Bennett – solid performance from Bennett and built on his performance at City last week. Obviously looked more comfortable as part of the back three rather than at RWB but dealt with any aerial threat well and won a number of headers. Looked comfortable in possession without ever really excelling – picked up an assist. 7.

Coady – what has become a standard performance from Coady. Was never really threatened defensively and made some good blocks/tackles and moved the ball around well at the back. 7.

Boly – it was fantastic to see Big Wily back in the team and we have definitely missed him. Slipped once when tracking a runner which let Norwich in but recovered well to concede a corner. Was always there as an out ball at the back and played some nice passes and made a few surging runs into space (although he did give up possession once doing this). Never really troubled on the ground and was fairly imperious in the air, good finish from being unmarked at the corner and was my MOTM. 9.

Doherty – Will the real Matt Doherty please stand up? He seems to be gaining more in confidence every time I see him play. Made some great runs down the wing and one particular surge through the centre of the field in the second half led to a great chance. Dealt with Murphy well when he needed to and was supported well by Bennett in behind. 8.

Douglas – blows hot and cold does Barry. I thought he was our weakest player defensively last night and Pinto had him on toast a couple of times. Did well going forward as per usual and put in some good deliveries from the dead ball. Picked up a stupid booking for leaving the pitch after we scored to fetch a drink from the bench (the ref was being a little pedantic). 6.

Neves – pissed the Norwich fans off a treat with a few niggly fouls whilst getting stuck in. Is a really important part of how we keep the ball and recycle possession. Played a few nice long range passes as per usual. Could have scored in the first half had it not been for a good save from Gunn. 7.

N’Diaye – Good performance from Alf. We tend to play a slightly different game with him in the side as his passing range isn’t as expansive as Neves or Saiss. However he bring a real drive and energy to the middle of the park and he made some great forward runs. Had a great chance to score at 1-0 but his tame shot was saved by Gunn and had a second chance minutes later but he didn’t get a connection onto the ball. Filled in well defensively when Boly went on a run forward. 7.

Jota – Quieter game than what we are used to from Diogo but he still played well. He was kicked more than once (as per usual) and made a number of good runs but importantly worked hard going the other way and helping out defensively. Was played in well by Bright but just took too much time in getting a shot away which allowed the Norwich defender to get a block in – looked shattered by the time he was subbed. 7.

Cavaleiro – fantastic performance from Cav, made a number of runs in the first half right at the heart of the Norwich defence which should have led to at least one goal. Looked tired when he was subbed but he starts on Friday for me. 8.

Bonatini – close run to Boly for my MOTM. The guy just oozes class and is always in the right place whether that is to lash home from Bennett’s header or to link play between the midfield and attackers on a counter attack. Fantastic finish to put the game to bed. 9.

Subs
Enobakhare – did well wide before moving centrally after Leo was taken off. Two standout moments in particular to fashion a chance for Jota & one for himself which he could have scored. 7

Price – did well to keep possession and shore us up. 7.

Costa – was the wrong person to bring on and was worrying in his body language. Made a great run when coming on but lost the ball and just sauntered back to the half way line after wards. Was played in well by Doherty but showed no desire to get the ball and Norwich won it back easily. I don’t know whether it is a confidence thing or a fitness thing or maybe both? Either way I would have preferred Vinagre to come on. Noticed that Nuno questioned him at full time (in a “what was that?” fashion) and then put his arm around him for encouragement. Needs games to get back up to speed. n/a.

they got away with 3 tackles on Jota with studs into his ankle. Most of our "fouls" were ridiculous, in their players went down under little or no pressure. The ref was very fussy, but missed some of the more crappy challenges.

edit - agree with every word of Stans summary, great write up.

I thought the ref was pretty poor for both teams last night

Rather enjoyed those highlights. It seems that, early header against the post aside, we were never really troubled. Possibly should have scored more, though I don't think any of the chances missed on there were absolute gimmes.

I love football.

I wish James Fielden would stop trying to be a clever cunt.. Everybody says Neves, not saying it as if you've got a bloody lisp.

I dunno, DW, fancy not mentioning that in addition to winning five different English League divisions, we're the only English team to have won two championships in the USA...

:icon_lol: That made me laugh far more than it should have!

Excellent work, DW.

For those moaning at Bonatini missing sitters. Jota missed the most glaring opportunity where a first time shot on his right is a guaranteed goal and N’Diaye should have done better.

What foot is Jota, honestly haven’t seen a preference. I’d say right due his Millwall goal but he hits them from range on both feet.

No idea which one is Jota's favourite foot, look at how he lashed in the goal against Villa on his left.

Thanks for all the comments guys :)

Keep writing Dan, good things come to those that wait and be patient. You'll get that chance very soon.

I think it stems back to 1973-74. In those days you only changed your strip when there was a colour clash. With relegation looming, they didn't have much money and had pawned their away kit mid-season, so in the League Cup semi-final second leg at Molineux John 'Premium' Bond had them wearing white T-shirts with the numbers done in felt tip. They've never got over the humiliation. (This might be wrong.)

Pretty sure they played in red that day, I was there but it was a long time ago.
