Loan Watch 2020-2021

Sanderson starts for Sunderland and I think they're on sky tonight

Sarkic appears to have been dropped in favour of Burgoyne who had kept a clean sheet. Still no sign of Matheson

Back on Sanderson, as there are a few articles about him leaving.. given his qualities it occurred to me that he might fit well in 4 at the back, which might make him more interesting to keep. Most of our other CBS, Boly aside, are clearly better in a 5.

Leo scored again last night, putting away a penalty to win the game.

Looks like Burgoyne's going to get a run in the team ahead of Sarkic, providing he doesn't cock up. Speaking of keepers, Pardington's been promoted to bench duties for Mansfield, after an injury to their Number 1. Still think it's a strange move for him to go there and be third choice.

The whole team in charge of loans need sacking. Get some people on board who are competent and have some contacts at other clubs where it’s worthwhile sending our players and the managers want to actually play them.

It’s been shocking for years.

Dulwich's season got cancelled so it was come back here and not play or go somewhere else and maybe play. He's way off Football League standard anyway.

Perhaps they just aren't very good?

That’s Jinky’s point isn’t it?

We have an ex-player with no coaching, scouting or sales experience. Why would anybody think it would be anything other than a shit show?

Somebody who works in recruitment (glorified slave traders as somebody described it to me) would be a good start.

I read TT's post as relating to the players, not the loans team?
In which case he’s wrong.

Matheson and Sanderson have played at Lg1 level already, others just need the right environment to thrive.

Be interesting to see what we do with Matheson. Wouldn’t surprise me if we give him some time in U23s games

Looking at the list, how many of these have gone out on loan with a view to comeback and be a first teamer?

Ryan Giles - Rotherham United, The Championship - Surely missed his chance now and its all about a fee

Matija Sarkic - Shrewsbury Town, League One -
Rumoured to be replacing Ruddy next year

Dion Sanderson - Sunderland, League One -
If he has no future, he is certainly adding ££ to his future fee

Luke Matheson - Ipswich Town, League One. -
You would hope he would be in the come back category but right now a new manager doesn't fancy him

Jamie Pardington - Mansfield Town, League Two. -
Unlikely to ever become anything at Wolves

Ruben Vinagre, Bruno Jordao and Leonardo Campana - Famalicão, Portuguese Primeira Liga -
We know Rubes is going, so all about a fee. No clue on Jordao or Campana. Probably in the unlikely category, can Jorge get a decent fee though

Patrick Cutrone - Valencia, La Liga -
Just pushing him away and taking loan fees to recoup some of the wasted money

Rafa Mir - S.D Huesca, La Liga -
Not coming back and saw something the other day that Huesca have an option to sign him for £10m. That fee is not happening but we might get something semi decent

Meritan Shabani - VVV-Venlo, Eredivisie -
Really want him to make it

Christian Herc - MFK Karvina, Czech Premier League -
No future

Leo Bonatini, Tote Gomes, Connor Ronan and Oskar Burr (until summer 2022) - Grasshoppers, Swiss Challenge League (second tier) -
Possibly Gomes out of that lot. Leo just playing down his contract, Burr will never hit the standards we require and Ronan has surely missed his chance now.

So out of that list 4 players that *might* be important to us and a mixture of players we have tried to develop or signed, done their bit and now need to move on & Patrick Cutrone. Generally I think the number of players used by the clubs we have sent them to have been better than in previous years and we are never going to find a league club that will agree to play them regardless of form

Yeah, the hit rate is really low across the board. Chelsea probably do it best but even the other top clubs struggle. Look at United for instance, they've sent us Gibson and Borthwick-Jackson in the past. At the time they were two of their very most highly rated prospects, had already played some first team football too. Both shite and we stopped picking them after a bit. Not United's fault (we were supposed to be challenging for promotion both times, big crowds for them to experience, space in the team for them to play, you'd think they'd picked the right club), not our fault (we couldn't keep sticking them in, they weren't performing).

We did it with Jesus last year. Looked good elsewhere, turned out to be shite in England and we stopped picking him and pissed off Real (probably)

Chelsea have about 180 players out on loan so would expect 4 or 5 to do something that gets them in the team eventually

It isn’t just about the first team. A good loan manager finds clubs for players who can buy or can raise the value of a player by increasing the form and development of players (assets)

Chelsea, City, Liverpool, Utd, Leicester, Arsenal, Soton, Fulham and Spurs all use the system better than we do.

I know those clubs along with Brentford have a person (some with zero footballing background) who is solely assigned to find clubs for players who have no chance of making the senior first team of the club they are at. It’s a time consuming job which needs huge expertise and is not for some former footballer.
