Let's talk about Nuno....

He made a call which I and many others disagreed with (given the league season is as good as dead, I couldn't really see the argument for prioritising Sunday over Thursday) but I don't think it's fair to bring respect into it.

Fine to question his decisions but I would say not fine to question his character.
Which is exactly what he did, and i felt i had to call him out on it.

First off, my points have nothing to do with the donation Nuno made. That's shows he has a heart. No doubting that. As to working in these trying times, there are many, many people around the world, away from home, getting on with their jobs because they're paid to do it (and not so handsomely paid I might add). I question his abilities this season to do the job and feel that to pick a side like he did on Thursday, was one big kick in the knackers to many of an old gold persuasion. That's all.
All of that is fine. Saying he disrespected us and the club because of a selection of players for a game is bollocks, and that's why i quoted that in the post.
Calling out his decisions on team selection is fine, we all have that right.

I hate to say it but I think he's on borrowed time unfortunately.

Been ambivalent for months but he gets the “benefit of the doubt”, and because of what he’s done. Plus the Arsenal, Villa and Spurs performances got me back on side. Sadly since then it’s been awful.

If I knew the club were going to get a good replacement then I’d have him gone tomorrow. Don’t know whether we would though.

Certainly did. Was it the psychologist (name escapes me - edit- Julio, that's the one) he was bear hugging at the end? Wonder if he gave the half time talk ;)

Not sure. But 7 points from 9 exemplifies a bit of a turnaround, so credit to Nuno.

Let's just please not play like that first half ever again.

I think today he might have stumbled on a formation that works and he can build on. He can keep his back 3 and get the wing backs to provide width and play inside forwards not wingers. If we are up against it we still have the safety net of an additional defender but we looked far more competent in possession than we have for a very long time. I really hope he builds on the second half rather than reverting to the mixture of flawed formations we've had to endure for far too long.

You have to hope that he has seen that and realises it really does work. I'm guessing he is still learning as a manager, and sometimes you literally fall on a combo that just flat out works.

Interestingly we are only 4 points behind this same stage last season, but we were 7th.

So,

Rui
Semedo Boly Coady Marcal Jonny
Neves ANO
Neto ANO Traore

Apart from Semedos obvious brain fart in the first half I though he was probably our best player in the first half

What do others think?

That works for me. I really don't think we've got a better option with the players we've got. It allows Nuno to keep his defensive mind set but slows us to keep the ball and play more than any other formation. Add Raul and Pod as options plus a more athletic partner to Neves and the future suddenly looks a little brighter than at half time today.

Judging anyone's first half performance as anything but awful is like claiming to be good at high jump when the bar is set for limbo dancing!

Yeah, I know it's a bit "tallest dwarf" kind of thing. But just my observation
