Leeds 0 - Wolves 1, how the feck did we do that verdict thread

But they were cracks he inherited. Under Zenga we were in free fall, not too dissimilar to the Solbakken era. Lambert has engineered 19 points from the last 10 games which is some achievement given what had come before that.

It seems pretty clear that there has been a bit if a reality check at the top of the club this season and Lambert now has the chance to be judge on a squad he assembles.

I wouldn't trust him to assemble an Ikea chair. Let's not kid ourselves that Weimann and Marshall are anything but mid-table players and the persistence of playing Edwards will mean we lose more than we win. We may have won today but more often than not that team will have us in relegation trouble if played consistently.

I don't trust Lambert or Thelwell to build a team capable of staying up let alone competing for promotion.

That's incredibly harsh. Can't agree at all - once he got fit, Marshall has done really well and Weimann should be signed as long as he plays upfront where he's looked good.

I agree with Langers, Marshall has done very well since coming - proving a lot of people wrong. In the right team there's absolutely no reason that he couldn't be in a top 6 team. Certainly better than the standard of players consistently in a relegation fight.

I'm 50/50 on whether we should sign Weimann (depends what we do with Nouha and Bod) but Marshall is a top six player IMO. Will lack pace to play Premier League but got a lot about him at this level.

I'd rather sign Weimann and sell Bod

It's been too long since I've seen someone take a decent corner consistently! (in regard to Marshall)

Likewise. I wouldn't sign AW if we plan to use him out wide mind you. Up top or not at all.
Lambert has said this evening he prefers Weimann up front as he loses something from his game when played out wide but he needed him to do a job there (v Bristol & Brighton)

Agree with Marshall being a good signing, he's just a steady footballer but got real technique and in this league that can make the difference at times. Weimann is a funny one, he's not good enough to play out wide, he's not going to be prolific in front of goal even if played upfront but he does have an impact on the game when played there. I think we will sign him but we still need to sign a real goalscorer too.

Well he didn't v Bristol, nor really v Brighton so its a flawed philosophy

Maybe but I can see us selling Costa and Lambert saying Marshall is his natural replacement and that simply isn't good enough. If you compare the 2 Marshall is nowhere near the standard of Costa.

People like Weimann but all I see is a wide version of Dave Edwards and I'm fed up of seeing players like that at Wolves. I know I'm the exception rather than the rule with Wolves fans but I get really pissed off when fans think players have had a good game because they've put a shift in. It's bollocks.

We need quality next season and whilst they are OK (Marshall and Weimann) we need better if we are to push for promotion.

With Lambert in charge we will never be any better than a mid table team. Our owners who promised the world need to take a long hard look at this very disappointing season. Beat Mewcastle, Fulham and Leeds away, but lose to Burton, Blues, Wigan and Bristol City.

What exactly do you have against Fosun frank?

They have invested a serious amount of money, admittedly got the first manager wrong, but other than that they seem pretty much the ideal owners - quiet, consistent and massively rich.

No one has ever compared Marshall to Costa. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make there.

If we'd made literally all the right choices inside a month or so - this with owners totally new to football, let alone English football, let alone English second tier football - then we might have had a chance of the top six. Maybe. Probably not as it's going to be a really high points total this year.

We finished our final friendly - ONE WEEK before the start of the season - with this team on the pitch:

----------------Ikeme------------------

Doherty----Odoffin-----Hause-----O'Hanlon

Byrne------Coady-------Edwards----Saville

----------------Henry--------------------

----------------Collins---------------------

With the greatest will in the world you have next to nothing to work with there and you can't fix it in a month. Yeah, they messed up with Zenga but we needed someone after Silva turned us down and Lopetegui stiffed us at the last minute. Ken would have been worse, I can say that with 100% confidence having seen every single home game in 2015/16.

They haven't got everything right but no-one does and the margin for error was basically nil. If by September we're still nowhere when they've now got four and a half months to sort it out then you can legitimately have a go at them. Until then I don't think you can.

They came in promising the world, and have made two very poor managerial appointments. A season that started with so much expectation is ending up with us in the bottom half of the league. I expected a little bit more. And my big concern is that the majority of the players who have under performed this season will again be the backbone of our team next year.

Fosun will have learn't loads this year - whether they can apply that properly for next season is a different question

They will now need to get the majority of the decisions right & get a decent start in August

For the record Lambert now has 37 points from 26 games, 1.33 PPG, around 61 points over a full season. Gets you around 11th-12th normally, which is about the best you'll ever get out of this lot.
