Leeds 0 - Wolves 1, how the feck did we do that verdict thread

Just back from a weekend in Manchester. Didn't see any football but that is a great result today. Didn't expect that after the Brighton game.

It seems we are better and more comfortable playing away than at home.

The Marshall signing is definitely a step in the right direction, a proper footballer with a decent delivery. Right now he offers something no-one else in the squad can, more signings of Marshalls quality please.

We're in a transition state and it's going to take time.

They haven't failed to deliver at all though. They have said it was a 3 year plan to get to the Premier League and year 1 hasn't finished yet and they said that it's at least a 10 year plan for how long they will be here. I'm still not sure on Lambert either but he has got us looking like we could get somewhere every so often.

Just curious as well Frank but what statements from our owners were you not convinced about and why do you think Lambert will not get us promoted?

Considering the massive financial clout they have, our owners have barely scratched the surface in investment. In fact they have made sure we sell Costa on at a profit, nothing wrong with that, but if they were serious about it, they would ensure we tied players down to stay at Wolves. A few million profit on Costa is small change to our owners.

Lambert has blown hot and cold, made many strange team selections and seems content to keep on selecting players who got us promoted from league one, we need to move on from those players. And that is not to mention the lack of activity on the January window. If Marshall is the best we could get then we really do have problems. Why didn't our owners flex their muscles in that window, my thinking is that they have no intention of investing heavily in the team. I am as keen as anyone to see Wolves back in the top flight, but I cannot see Lambert as the man to take us there.

It's really weird to see you this negative Frank - the world has clearly flipped on its axis in the last few months

Players weren't going to join us in January, we had a 0.1% chance of making the top six.

Marshall was an exception as he was nearly out of contract, has played for Lambert before and Blackburn are a mess, no one wants to be there.

We are a championship that has spent £30m in 4 months. What more could they do in that respect?

Previous owner was attacked for not spending, new owners break our transfer record fee twice and that is still not enough. Never going to win are they.

Their financial clout has nothing to do with their statements, they never mentioned that were going to spend a lot of money. They have invested though in Costa and Cavaleiro plus others. Yes they have made mistakes but like many have said they are new to football, they would have been extremely lucky to turn us around in one season. Who says Costa will go? He might but no one actually knows.

Why would they spend in January? Inflated prices on shit players with players we need to attract wanted by their own clubs either unwilling to let them go or want a fortune. Plus we were going nowhere, makes much more sense to spend it in the summer. They will invest because they know that they have to and they want to make money out of owning us, you don't make money in this league.

I get that everything hasn't been fantastic and it could have been a lot better but i think you're being overly negative and i have no idea why because we were in a much worse state than this under Jackett, Moxey and Morgan with no chance to progress and you were more positive than anyone. Seems strange to me.

Let's take someone like Jordan Rhodes (not that I especially like him, but for the sake of argument). He's at Middlesbrough in January, not really getting a game. Let's say we decided to get involved when it was clear he was available.

If you were him would you rather:

a) Stay at Middlesbrough in the Premier League and try to prove you're up to it (they weren't cut adrift or anything in January)
b) Join Sheff Wed who made the top six last season and are well placed this season, so if it goes well then you're at another PL club next season, if not then re-assess
c) Join Wolves who are about 14th who aren't going to do anything this year, so you're automatically consigning yourself to 18 months of Championship football, minimum

Not a hard choice is it. We weren't going to be able to perform miracles in that window, doesn't matter what money your owners have, you will struggle to attract players if your season is as good as dead halfway through.

This summer is the big window and it always has been. As I say, if come the start of September Doherty is still playing every game at LB, we haven't sorted centre half out, we still have awful goalkeepers, we don't have a striker you'd trust to get 10 goals, we still play at least one central midfielder who can't pass the ball 10 yards, then it will be fair to have a go.

As for Costa, we cannot tie him down while we're in this division. Can't happen, not possible. Don't want to lose players like that, don't get stuck in this poxy division. The owners know this. I hope he stays but I fully understand the realities of the situation, if Spurs or Liverpool want to have a look then what do you want us to do?

Yeah, if only they had spent £13m on one player that would have shown their desire and intentions, especially if they had spent £15m just a few months earlier.

The biggest mistake from Fosun was Zenga and one they quickly admitted and rectified. At this moment in time they cannot be accused of not spending or showing any signs of doing so in the future. To do so is the biggest pile of shit you can come out with.

The Lambert appointment is different and only time will tell if they got that one right. I think we can safely assume a poor start to the season will see you proved right on that point as Fosun won't hang around.

It's not the club that will instigate a Costa sale it will be Costa himself. Hopefully the club have been wise and set a high bar for a release clause.

I am very happy with Fosun and compared to the previous owner I find they are a breath of fresh air. It hasn't been a great season but they took over a week before the season and they went on a mad dash for players, most haven't worked out but they tried. When I look around at some of the owners others have - TTA at Blues, Fawaz at Forest, Cellino at Leeds, the situations at clubs like Coventry and Leyton Orient I think we should count ourselves lucky.

Fosun are sensible and considered, they do have plans in place (as they did originally with Lopetegui), they have made changes when necessary (Zenga) but not acted in a kneejerk fashion (could have sacked Lambert in February).

I am really looking forward to this summer to see what they do. This time last year we were contemplating a summer of inactivity under an absent, dissinterested owner and modest free transfers and nothing signings. We were thinking a takeover could be years off. Oh and more Jackett too.

Sako Hennessey, Afobe,Kightly, Fletcher, Jarvis all sold / left for various reasons but not really replaced with anything like the same quality. I think Costa will be sold and he will be replaced however this time there will be more money and better quality. Lambert gets the chance. 19 points from the last nine games. Despite two naff games at Bristol and against Brighton we are safe now. Fosun will have learnt much. So will Lambert. Interesting few months ahead. Never dull at molineux unless we are playing! Times have changed

Agree with almost all of this, the tail end of Morgan with god awful jackett 0-0s was as bad as I can remember as wolves (caveat - I missed almost all the Hoddle era)

I have more faith in Fosun than the previous reign.

6 moths into next season I may not have (this year was a learning curve for them) - but's lets give them a chance & see what happens before we damn them.

If only that pesky Financial Fair Play didn't exist, eh?

Maybe but I can see us selling Costa and Lambert saying Marshall is his natural replacement and that simply isn't good enough. If you compare the 2 Marshall is nowhere near the standard of Costa.

People like Weimann but all I see is a wide version of Dave Edwards and I'm fed up of seeing players like that at Wolves. I know I'm the exception rather than the rule with Wolves fans but I get really pissed off when fans think players have had a good game because they've put a shift in. It's bollocks.

We need quality next season and whilst they are OK (Marshall and Weimann) we need better if we are to push for promotion.

I can only think you don't go to many games?

Slagging off Fosun at this juncture is utterly ridiculous. It will be at least 3 years before their labor bears fruit that isn't somewhat touched by Morgan and Moxey's legacy.

Sorry to be so blunt, Frank, but it truthfully appears that you're WUMming or worse. There's really no legs for your stance to stand on. If you don't like Fosun because they're a corporation whose explicit goal is to make a profit from the club in some way, say so. But acting is if they should have had has promoted by October is obtuse in the extreme.
