Keir Starmer at it again..

Why is it an own goal, civil servants are supposed to be apolitical in the course of their work. It's a fuck up if they're not (see Simon Case).

Bernard Ingram who died last week was Thatcher's chief press secretary for over a decade, also had previously stood as a Labour MP.

Also on Sue Grey:

1) She only had to do the report because Case had to recuse himself, so who exactly is fitting who up here
2) Her report went lightly on Johnson and others if anything
3) How does what she does later in her career impact on anything
4) You appoint civil servants on competence. Johnson and others couldn't shut up for weeks about how superb she was at her job. Not surprised Starmer wants her on board then

Of course Tufton Street are after it, because they're fucking idiots.

It's 2023's Sam Tarry story. Remember him? Exactly.

Because the party investigation was a stitch up, Boris was ousted by a Labour coup etc etc. None of which needed to happen. It's the soundbites it gives, not the substance behind it

I for one have had enough of pandering to fucking morons with stupid opinions. We've done that for the guts of an entire fucking decade. Look where we are as a result.

If a handful of idiots want to think that then fine. If the Tories want to re-shine a light on their own scandals, also fine.

Yep. Fuck the fucking lot of them if they want to believe the bullshit they’re fed by the idiots in charge. Substitute English for Tufton St Wankers and Scottish for the idiots in renton’s monologue from trainspotting.

An entire thread that as accurate as it is fails to understand how politics in 2023 works

It's only an issue if people believe Johnson, jrm et al, and at this point I'd say such people are beyond rational thought anyway.

It's blatantly nonsense on any number of counts though, isn't it.

We cannot continue to have a situation where we refuse to do or say anything because it might upset idiots who don't understand what they're on about. I don't give a fuck about these people in that sense. They've had their go. It's been an unmitigated disaster. I do not care if you offend them along the way.

It's bizarre. Don't know what the thinking is there.
Labour are essentially preparing to be effective in Government from day 1. You don't change this country through talking about the big ideas, you do it through the ~400,000 strong Civil Service machinery implementing them. Nick Clegg (remember him) wrote about his biggest regret in 2010 was not understanding the Civil Sevice, because they'd never contemplated getting anywhere near power.

It just opens up incredibly easy attack lines with no advantage for Labour. There's a million people who could do the job. Most normal people would never be able to name Labour's Chief of Staff but now it's a thing.

This. They haven't got anybody that's experienced the actual mechanics of government, so appointments like this do make a lot of sense.

The people that believe the attack lines were never going to vote for Labour anyway. Bojo appointed her, so it can hardly be credibly framed as a Labour stitch up

If she takes the job, Alan Partridge is going to need a new PA

They didn't report it as a stitch up at the time.

As some one on twitter said, the greatest part of the Labour conspiracy was getting SKS to convince BoJo to hold multiple illegal parties...

I'm sure there are plenty of Humphrey Appleby types who can school Labour on the 'mechanics of govt' or indeed any other senior civil servant who isn't as high profile as Sue Gray. Really odd move.

It honestly makes no difference at all.

And all it's done is get people talking about Johnson breaking the law again. Have another investigation if you like. Help yourself.

Look what happens when you try to get some idiot to try to somehow knit together all these threads and make out it's a Tory win (spoiler: it isn't):
