Congratulations to Sir Keir Starmer on election to leader of the Labour Party...

On the way back hopefully. More focus on being a proper alternative to a corrupt government rather than some 6th form think tank.

Yep. He has a chance to bring back the lapsed voters and also can actually talk and debate properly!

Interesting that Boris chose today to invite opposition leaders into the coronavirus battle process. Think he knew pretty much who the winner was likely to be and he clearly thinks he can work a bit better with Starmer. Plus a chance for a final snub of Corbyn I guess.

Or a way of spreading around the blame and damaging a leader he actually fears.

That opening address is absolute quality, he speaks really well and I can't wait for him to sort out the bad that exists in the Labour Party

Aaah Darlo is like that kid that's got bestist present he really wanted for Christmas :)

A chance of a proper opposition that won't stand by and watch the Tories fuck the general public? Yeah I'm happy.
Also a leader who looks like he's going to have a real crackdown on Antisemitism and has also said that he will also work with the Government where it is for the better of the Country... No "opposition for opposition sake"

I'm agreeing with you, he was, from the outside, the only viable candidate, should be good !

Labour must capitalise on this.

The nutters from the far left are already getting stuck in. He's a Zionist, went out with a Jewish girl, pink Tory etc.

I think he's a great choice

Delighted.

Can't remember who I voted for deputy (either Rayner or Butler) but I'm pleased with Rayner.

Also just want to say I thought Lisa Nandy was a fantastic candidate and I hope she gets a prominent position in the shadow cabinet as I think she is a leader in waiting

Poor turnout % wise although numbers wise it was about the same as 2015/6 which suggests either many of those who newly signed up didn't vote, which seems unlikely or many of those who joined for Corbyn didn't vote. Big slap in the face for RLB if that is the case

Strange days when the Conservative Party leader is a dishevelled looking bloke with scruffy hair and looks uncomfortable in a suit and the leader of the Labour Party is a slickly coiffed, ageing James Bond figure!

A bit of moderation from the Momentum Stance and Labour is a whole lot more electable. Not to say that all of the policies in the manifesto were out there, but it was too extreme to gain power.

Starmer will also be far more adept at the despatch box, whenever Parliament is able to come out of recess. I am certainly expecting Boris to have a tougher time of things at PMQs.

His big job now is keeping the Momentum wing in line. Either that, or inviting them to form their own party and see where it gets them.
