January 2022 Transfer Thread

People need to get over the fee. They made the decision purely as an investment gamble. The fee reflects nothing about his ability.

The fact they did it with the club's money is slightly irritating as it could have limited our potential spending. But obviously they looked at that too and decided to go for it, wrongly or rightly.
What I will say about this is the fee does impact things. For example, I don’t think I’d be that against loaning him to a decent (creative) championship team. I think he’d score. But because we’ve overpaid for him by at least £20m there’s just no way the club will do that for ego/vanity reasons. Which is unfair on the player.

Would perhaps make him a bit of a target as well if he were to drop a level, particularly in a physical league like the Championship I could imagine some self appointed hard men fancying leaving a mark on the big name boy.

Snatch their hand off at that price.

Lille are winning at Sevilla as I type this...if they get through their group I cannot imagine we have a chance. Even if they don't they might still end up in the Europa. It would have to be the most Mendes of Mendes deals at this point, I think...but, I've been wrong before.

IMO Fabio should go on loan now, I think he's ready.

The problem is that he is the only back-up we have for Raul as we have no other number 9.

I know this sounds really churlish/picky, and I'm absolutely 100% for signing him, especially at that money...but is it just me, or does the kid go from looking like Diogo Jota to a competition winner? It's not like he fades out of games like Trincao, but goes through spells where he just looks technically terrible

That’s exactly what he looks like.

But I still think when I watch Jota for Liverpool he looks out of his depth at times but then scores a goal

Jota often went from looking like to Jota to a competitor winner. Often for games at a time.

Even when he's in the periods of looking like a competition winner, he still works hard defensively and for the team. He's generally looked good when he's had Raul next to him. He was abysmal against Villa when Raul didn't play, but we were dreadful for 75 minutes of that match.

All fair points, plus it's very early days yet. Couple of his goals have been scrappy but the 2 against Newcastle were excellent finishes, I think he's gunna be an asset and at 13 million or whatever, looks a steal

He's looked inconsistent at times on the ball, but his movement is decent and he has that handy knack of being in the right place to score goals.

Personally don't at all see the argument that his technical skill deserts him at times. Can't think of any moment that he's stuck out to me in that way. I would bristle at the idea that he's somehow less consistent than, well, any single other wide forward we have.

Sometimes he does have massive brainfarts (the giveaway against Villa, for example), but I can easily chalk that up to the fact that he is a brand new face in a team trying to undergo a massive tactical overhaul and he likely has to do all of his communication through a translator at the moment.

Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, Giovani Lo Celso and Bergwijn are all said to be on the chopping block at Spurs.

Interesting. Alli is a prick but if he was our prick...............

I have also been a fan of Moura for a while but I think he commands to big a fee and wages. Bergwijn? No real idea. Has looked good in flashes. I would not mind Alli or Moura on a loan deal in January.

Dele Alli is about as interested in playing football as Bright Enobakhare. I guess there's little to lose with a loan with a very small fee, but I doubt he'll be arsed
