January 2022 Transfer Thread

Doesn’t play in a 2 though does he?
I didn't say we should have one who does. I'd play 4231 if we had the personnel, not with a 10 as such more an 8/10 hybrid. I didn't see the game today, but reports would suggest Raul was isolated again.
---------------------------Sa----------------
--Semedo----New-----Kilman?-- RAN/Jonny
--------------Moutinho-------Neves
-----Hwang-------New---------Neto/Trincao
---------------------Raul---------

MGW for new, edit - I think we also need a new next to Neves, Moutinho cannot play every single game and Donk is borked.

I'd leave MGW in Sheffield for the season now. Just let him play and see where he's at in the Summer

Agreed. More of a 433 like palace operate. One true sitter, one CM and then a box to box. We don’t have the box to box type but Sanches would be that player.

Would probably need another though as would still be 4 into 3.

I don’t think we can play the true #10 as we aren’t good enough to carry that passenger. Podence isn’t good enough to make up for his other short falls.

I agree, but I also think there is zero chance of us playing 4 at the back this season so it’s rather moot.

I'm not so sure, games like today based on reports will make Bruno determined to do so IF he gets the players I think.

I think Lo Celso could, he doesn't ever get a solid run at spurs but when he plays looks very good, I'd take him here in a heartbeat.
Good footballer but he’s a cock. He never gets a run in the team because he almost never looks interested.

He should have switched to a 4 with the players we do have today (not from the start, but certainly after the first goal, even if the pattern was clear before then). Instead we continued leaving the forwards isolated, over run in midfield and then succumbed to the pressure making mistakes/moments of quality.

Agreed. Just posted similar in the verdict thread before reading this.

How much of that is chicken and egg? Can't say he seemed like that when I saw him play for Betis.

It's a fair question. Admit I didn't see him at Betis so can't speak to that.

I don’t really rate MGW at all, but if we don’t sign another midfielder in January we have to bring him back.
Try him here when required and make a decision in the summer. We’re getting away with it [just] at the moment but we can’t rely on Neves and Moutinho for a whole season

I saw him play live against Milan in Europe and he was fantastic for them. He scored and think he set the other up, which may be clouding my judgement but I did see him a few other times that season and always looked really good as a number 8 type. Worked aswell and did some graft.

That's good to hear; my biggest issue with him at Spurs has been how petulant he can be with his defensive work/fouls, but on further reflection I suppose that petulance matters much less when the player is wearing your own club's shirt.

He's got to be on sizable wages, though.

Bringing Aaron Ramsey in should be seen positively, it would suggest we are freeing up space in the treatment room.
